What Amma really means, is beyond our comprehension though we love to follow what She says. The poem expresses my helplessness and Amma assurance inspite of my foibles.

'Let Christ be born in you'

Let Christ be born in you

I heard Amma saying:
“Let Christ be born in you.”

Amma, how can Christ be born in me?
My mind is full of dirt and dross,
two forces always trouble me-
they tend to put me on a cross.

Up one tries hard to pull me-
shuns the undesirable;
but down the other drags me-
runs after undesirable.

One makes me swallow pride,
makes a bridge of the ‘I’,
the other wallows in pride,
builds a barrier of the ‘I’.

In such a dark and dingy hut,Amma,
how can Christ be born?
even if I scrub for ages , Amma
there Christ cannot be born.

“Never lose hope, keep praying,
in darkness of grief, Christ comes,
He loves even people unloving,
you cry for Him, running He comes.

His parents had no palace of gold,
in a manger Christ was born,
that too was dark, dingy and cold,
lit up it was, when He was born.”

No words to thank You, Amma,
hope slowly buds in me.
Shower Your grace, my Amma,
may Christ be born in me!
