Let Him Die!

As a nation our selflish beliefs and ways are catching up with us and causing us to belittle and forsake our common bonds with others as depicted herein.

Let Him Die!

The other night I was watching the US political Tea Party Republican debate on television. As I observed the various candidates roll with each question the audience posed; and do their best to get away from directly answering the question I was actually gathering my thoughts about our nations politics. It is clear, to me anyway, that the prevalent paradigm of our “elected” leaders in Washington is one of “me first”. In other words, it seems that they are primarily concerned with their particular political party’s status first and their re-election second and then thirdly if it benefits the people so be it. It also seems that whatever political party occupies the White House the opposing party does their best to “damn” the other. And employ any and all tactics available to unseat the sitting president. I fully believe that our ethical and moral position in our beloved country is becoming seriously flawed.

I say that because of a sudden and astonishing action by members of the selected audience for the debate. A particular question was first posed to Congressman Ron Paul because of his career as a physician in regard to health insurance and a hypothetical young patient. The question was that a 30 year old man in excellent health and had a good job elected to not have health insurance as he felt he didn’t need it. He then was in a car wreck and was on life support with no way to pay for the health care necessary to sustain him until he recovered. What would Dr. Paul do in that situation? The Congressman answered that that he felt the man made a very poor choice in not having the major medical plan and that we are susceptible to the consequences of our choices. But it was then that I was shocked beyond belief when at least three voices from the audience vehemently shouted out “Let Him Die!” Now the hypothetical man may very well have died, and I am certainly not a bleeding heart liberal but……. let him die?

Where are we as a nation of Americans? Have we become a land of me first and screw you as a lot of politicians have portrayed to us they are doing? Has the golden rule just become no more than an Aesop fable to us and if so what are we actually showing to our children? Every day our American Military is fighting against true evil in other countries in an effort to keep the battle there and not here on our soil. And while there is true evil outside our shores I fear that the evil that will destroy us comes from within. Remember the Roman Empire; as a nation of people are we putting our thumbs up or down on our fellow man and/or our future as well?

America has lost its soul, and now it's every man for himself. God help us.
