Before leaving their encampment near Mount Sinai Moses instructs the children of Israel in all that God had taught him.

Moses Instructs The People.

Before leaving their encampment near Mount Sinai Moses instructs the children of Israel in all that God had taught him. Most of the remainder of the book of Exodus evolves around the people’s gifts and the building of the tabernacle, and how it is to be set up along with making the garments for the priests and when and how they are to be worn. Just how serious God is about his commandments is shown in Exodus 35: 2. “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you a Sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work therein shall be put to death”. Although the punishment is severe, we have to remember that death was the penalty for most misbehavior at that point in history and human life was not valued as it is today. We must also remember that everyone needs a day of rest and often throughout history there were those who would work their servants and slaves, as well as their cattle to death without this law.

The People Give Willingly

The people gave willingly of all that they had and eventually Moses had to tell them not to bring anymore for they had sufficient for all the work. Everyone was kept busy and as is always the case, some were more talented than others and these had the most creative jobs. “And all the women that were wise hearted did spin with their hands, and brought that which they had spun both of blue and of purple and of scarlet and of fine linen and all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goat’s hair” Exodus 35: 25-26. Finally all the work is completed and the tabernacle is erected. “And he set the laver between the tent and the congregation and the altar, and put water there to wash withal. And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hand and their feet thereat: When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near the altar, they washed; as the Lord commanded Moses. And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work” Exodus 40: 30-33.

The Cloud And The Fire

When all was finished a cloud covered the tent of the congregation and we are told that the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. As long as the cloud remained, not even Moses could enter the tent. As the Children of Israel continued their journey from Mount Sinai, the cloud was there by day and fire by night. When the cloud was taken up they traveled but while the cloud remained they stayed in that place. This Continued throughout all their journeys.
The End.

yes it is amazing. I have heard some people say that all this was pure superstition, but I feel it is more to it than that. The same people say these signs and wonders have not happened in over 600 years further proving their point. But I say any recent direct communication with God has been viewed as mental illness. But I know I have communicated with God, it is a feeling of peace like no other that descends upon me. I am not mentally ill but I am a therapist by training.

Thank you Carol. Yes we are a very different people today. Those early people were very close to the earth and to nature and therefore to God. It was much easier for such people to feel God speaking to them. Of course, they viewed God differently too and that is the reason that many people today cannot accept the God of the Old Testament. Nothing has changed except the interpretation. I believe that many people still get messages from God but not all realize it. Others have had experiences that they will not talk about because they fear that they will be misunderstood and of course, with good reason. Blessings.

This series leaves me with wonder, greater understanding of beliefs, and the lives of people in those times.

I too believe people have less of noise to distract them at that time and yearned more to experience the presence of God. Having come thus far, we have more of invincibility now though these can prove deceptive when the push comes to shove.

God should have held our hands to steady us in the initial days and that is clear from scriptures of other beliefs that date back many millenniums back in our history.

Looking forward to many more of your posts, thanks Kingwell - siva

At least God was upfront and close by to these people.

I wish I could see such a cloud, it would be proof indeed of all this stuff.

Great series Kingwell

Hi spirited, It would be great to have some proof, such as seeing the cloud. How much of this correct is anyone's guess but remember such stories were passed by word of mouth long before they were written down. Thanks for continuing to comment. Blessings.
