This poem traces the life of a man from birth to death and questions what follows.

Life, Death and Beyond.

The little boy is happy
With sister he does play
He thinks not of tomorrow
Knows of nothing but today

The years pass on the boy we see
In school with book and pen
A change is wrought within him
He learns the ways of men

Time moves on a young man stands
With his bride at chapel’s door
Though to manhood grown now
It’s the boy we knew before

Old time takes on a faster pace
And when we look again
A fine and prosperous man we see
Reversed by fellow men

But now we take a deeper look
We hear the great man sigh
O for the joy and freedom
I knew when just a boy

Ashes to ashes dust to dust
We hear the good man say
Yet is there more man must be more
Than just a piece of clay

We look upon a new born babe
And ask what came before
We look upon a dying man
And know there must be more

As actors on the stage of life
We’ve many a part to play
When every jot and tittles paid
We will not need the clay

For all must soar to higher heights
For Karma too atone
Until the day we understand
And know as we are known

As actors on the stage of life.
We've many a part to play... this is the one I'd take from your poem. Life is something more than raising, going to school and university to become a successful old one. I'd say we are the ones to change things for better or worse. Good poem!

"Until the day we understand
And know as we are known"

Your poem speaks of life as it is Kingwell.

Perhaps you are right in what you write here.

I would certainly like to know the one who knows me better though, and to know more of what they know too...LOL

Thank You Spirited. So much about life and death is a mystery but some of us are seekers. I think you will agree though that there is a 'knowing' within us that says there is more to life than the few short years we have here. Many refuse to listen to that still small voice within. Those who seek find more meaning to life but it's unlikely that we could ever comprehend it all with our limited understanding. Blessings.

Life is too short for the most of us no matter our age. A beautiful poem.

Philosophical and thought provoking poem, thanks Kingwell. If life is a miracle, death could be as well.

There are so many wheels within wheels in life like the stars in the universe - we all have unique experiences too. I believe even who we meet for a moment has significance to add meaning and purpose to our eternal journey. I also believe we will instantly recognize when we meet again with language and physical attributes proving no barriers - siva

Thank you Siva. We agree on many things. We meet those whom we are meant to meet, whether it be briefly or a lifetime. Our free will comes into play with how we react to the people and events around us. I don't think there is language as we think of it in the spiritual realm yet we will all recognize those whom we have known before. Blessings.
