Life is tough. Make life easier with some simple solutions for everyday problems.

Frozen pizza

Before baking a frozen pizza, break the pizza into halves or fourths. This will allow the pizza to cook faster and more thoroughly – no more burnt ends or frozen middles!

Leave pizza in plastic covering (this will prevent a cheese and topping mess). Place half the pizza flat on the cabinet, half over empty air. Push the empty air side down quickly (think karate chop) until the pizza breaks. Repeat the process by rotating the pizza one quarter turn for fourths.

Once the pizza has been broken into the desired number of pieces, remove the plastic and place pizza slices on parchment paper on a cookie sheet or baking pan. (Correct use of parchment paper will nearly eliminate clean up and extend the life of your baking pans.) Alternating triangular slices will allow more pizza to fit per pan – a must if the cook is serving multiple guests at once. Don’t forget to reduce cooking time!

This life hack is also convenient when a pizza slicer is not. How many times must we burn ourselves slicing hot pizza? If the pizza is pre-sliced, then the answer is “none.”

Covering Leftovers

Microwave-safe salad bowls make great covers for many microwave dishes and dinners. Covered food in the microwave retains more moisture (won’t dry out) and some people prefer this taste (I know I do!). Covered food also prevents ugly microwave splatters.

But some people still don’t cover their food. They worry about steam burns. I understand, and people must always be careful around hot foods. However, I have found that a thickly folded or wadded paper towel, or even a microwave safe lid, tucked under one end of the microwave-safe food cover, will prevent suction from attaching the lid to the tray and will make it easier to lift the lid without getting burned. Every microwave is different, and different plates and tray mean a little trial and error may be in order to arrive at the perfect dish. But if tired of cleaning the microwave of ugly food splatter, or eating hard dry microwaved food, this life hack may be worth some experimentation.

Kitchen Utensil Storage

No room in drawers for tall kitchen utensils, such as egg turners, spatulas, salad tongs, or meat forks? Some people buy large ceramic jars to set these items on the counter. However, some things slide to the bottom and get lost. There is an easy solution!

Empty and rinsed out/dried out plastic (disposable) water bottles can be placed in containers to provide organizational structure for the utensils (ordinary drinking cups would work as well). Set the bottles inside the desired container, then cut off the bottle neck so utensils will fit and the bottle doesn’t show. I taped my arrangement of bottles together and set them inside a large pot. This way, if I ever need to use the pot, I simply lift the bottles and utensils out in one motion and set them aside. When the pot is used, cleaned, and dried, I pop the arrangement back in. For me, it’s a great way to maximize kitchen space.

More Life Hacks are coming!!

Stay tuned for more ways to make life around your home easier without spending lots of money.

You're welcome. And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who needed correcting. Since I felt the error was mine, I felt responsible for making it right! Best to you!

Phyl these are great ideas. I never would have thought to use old pans or empty plastic containers for storage. I will be implementing them now.
