Life Remains a Mystery

Life and death are as much a mystery now as in primeval times. We appear from nowhere and also disappear likewise. Most seek refuge in beliefs to face the unknown. Negative traits are out in force while the positives are in the deep recess of our minds to make an impact.

Our Destiny

When we ponder what life and creation is about, we realize science cannot decipher the truth as we are still at the basics. If our parents had married different persons, would we be born? Is it destiny that they met for us to be born here or a simple accident? Forget where we go after our stint here, but where were we before being born here? How many can recall past lives, if any at all? Why none bothers to contact the living after departing despite few having such close ties with those they spent their greatest moments with? Many theories and beliefs abound but the simple fact is we are insignificant in the whole scheme of creation; not even a speck! Humanity itself could have a limited innings; a sobering thought that is unthinkable to reconcile with when many feel they have eternal rights over their possessions!

Loose Ends: No Closure in Life

We can be religious, have firm beliefs, but we do turn agnostic at times. We have doubts at least at some point in time that we are a spent force at the end; truly done and just disappear without a trace. Don’t feel bad, even Mother Teresa had such moments, it seems! When few are born to suffer all their lives, the good at heart taken advantage of by all and sundry with none to deliver complete justice, something is not right! Justice should be seen to be delivered before we leave this place. It is better that our account is closed to leave in peace and to make real impact on the still living.

Realities of Life

Accumulation of wealth is seen as at the pinnacle of success. Though such life can be unfulfilling in the end, many are too immersed in their acts to ponder. They hardly bother about the destination when they enjoy the ride with the perquisites that go with them. I recall the story of a boon extended – limitless wealth without happiness or bliss without wealth. Despite the choice being clear, many opted for wealth - give us the millions and we don’t mind being unhappy was their choice! Let us live it up now!

Can we find happiness through contentment or the latter is not the right choice as one can be termed lazy and easily satisfied? Everything has two sides and it is up to each to make a wise choice and reconsider along the way. Many enjoy lonely rides, like to be left alone. For me, I can be alone but never feel lonely. Of course, those periods cannot go on forever. We are social animals and need interaction.

Our bodily needs influence our thinking and mental make-up. Only few step put of their comfort zones. Most just exist, survive to finally reach the destination. What then? Some act as our relatives, neighbors and friends; a microcosm of humanity. We exchange views though the circle has expanded with technology. But the basics have not changed. We are easily brought down to earth despite flying high!

Groping in the Dark; Led into Untested Frontiers

Lifestyles change but we are nowhere near to understanding what life is about. It cannot just be a ride from birth to death and then the unknown! Have we made any progress all these years in understanding life and death? We follow beliefs that are brought down generations but nothing enlightening has turned out. In fact, with less time at our disposal our ability to reflect on the deeper meaning of our existence is also becoming less of a priority. Maybe, it is no more a priority!

We are becoming more like machines when we lead robotic lives devoid of feelings. Each for himself is becoming the philosophy and we get carried away with tools that take our breath away. Even adults salivate, queue for hours to get the latest gadgets to wow others! But do they lead to a better quality of life? It seems the opposite as we regress in many aspects – with less time for each other. We have less of real friends in need, neighbors we hardly interact with and even family life has taken a back seat! When we do not question such lifestyles, where we are headed for, then life as we have lived for generations will lose its moorings. We will be left to clutch at straws when we are forced to pick up the pieces. We are no wiser and in fact losing our way, no control where we are headed for. We are becoming less human! The negative traits are alive and well but the positives lay hidden, dormant, to make the needed impact.

Your comments are more than a mere star, dear Steve! Your words touch me to dig deeper as that is where I get my inspiration. I have written over 500 articles, most at Yahoo! Voices (earlier Associated Content), where the views of readers were like here, but it was clear I will never be paid as I am not a US resident. FYI, I got a lovely comment from one fellow contributor couple of hours ago that she revisits often to read my posts, the last is almost a year old! Thanks again Steve - siva

I believe the greatest mystery lies in discovering who we are and what we are meant to be on this planet. It is once we conquer this side of us, we get to know our mirror beings and accordingly follow the route to reach the bigger purpose in life.
When you are ready life opens the many portals that creates and co-creates the many happenings that we see around ourselves. It is all about how tuned you are to what you believe in and the life you lead. With that you are never a mystery and likewise, life is this boundless, seamless dancefloor of possibilities just waiting to happen.

Thanks Lady A for your share. The increasing noise pollution puts paid to discovering who we are! We are assailed by negativity but we fight back even without realizing it! My way is to embrace all irrespective of race, color, religion, gender, physical appearance and then we ascend to a level of feeling the oneness of humanity. And other fellow species as they too struggle to survive like us and also led by few. I also like to keep an open mind on all thoughts, beliefs as they emanate from us only. I accept what appeals to me, but keep a discreet distance from those that get to my goat! We are given the best dance floor, as you nicely put it, but we sulk in a corner than get into the real act! The realization that we are one will make us dance to our heart's content - siva

I agree with Steve...

Wealth does not come with us when we depart...only INNER wealth...

Thanks Rama-ji. Inner wealth is a state of the mind. When we tune in to that frequency, we will never revert to life as usual. It is pure bliss than the transient path that takes our breath away; but alas, not the real deal! We should ponder, but as I wrote above - give me the millions, I don't mind being unhappy - is the trend! Namaste - siva

Thanks Madan. For some agreed. But science has shed little new light so we have to look back for solace - in a way accept our fate! But simple justice escapes some who sacrifice everything for others - siva

Interesting post but I do believe that we have a living and loving God who we can have a real relationship with. How do I know this? I know it by witnessing the lives of those who believe in God and see a peace in their hearts that surpasses all human understanding. I am behind in my commenting because I am trying my luck at blogging instead. Since Google has changed that algorithm they will not let any articles show up on the first page of a search if they feel like the writing platform is nothing more than a content farm. This is why Yahoo voices lost 95% of their revenue. Google considers Yahoo Voices to be a content mill. I do not know how Wikinut figures in all of this yet because they are so new. However, it is close to impossible to make any money from them. If it was not for the fact that my husband has to quit his job soon, due to pain, I would not care, but, since he feels that he can no longer work I must try to find a way to make money. I enjoy reading your articles but must apologize for being so far behind. I may not write anymore articles for writing platforms. I started 3 blogs today, and, I already am getting more hits than I did in one month with writing platforms. God be with you in your search for answers!!

Thanks Judy, I was thinking aloud without casting doubts on beliefs. The matter that hurts and disturbs me is many are such loving souls but others take advantage of them. They have only their beliefs to seek refuge in. They are short-changed most of their lives; while the perpetrators of such "crimes" roam the world without a care! And our justice system can never rise to the occasion as many escape the net.

I will be one of those who will miss you here but I very well understand your predicament. I get some relief from my pains by logging in here! Do send the blog details so that I can visit them as often as I can. But do call in whenever time permits. Best regards and I wish you and family His benedictions - siva

While humanity has largely divided itself into these two mindsets, the only alternative that seems to be left out of the loop is the merging of both science and spirituality.

Thanks Hastomo for your thoughtful comments. We have to strive for more of justice till our last moments - it is a continuous struggle. The silent majority gets a raw deal despite democracy and freedom - siva

Thanks for the comments, Abhishek. We are imprisoned within our bodies and to be released when we breathe our last here in our present cloak. We are taken in by outside appearances and they can be deceiving - siva

I really like your article. in many aspects i can go clearly with you, its insightful and clear.
But because there is change doesn't mean it's bad change, maybe illusions and false concepts will break down too with changes we now consider as bad. And in the end life remains a mystery. it feels bad, that we can't control that, but on the other hand in every really good feeling we ever had is a huge piece of lifes mystery i think. So we shouldn't worry too much about that mystery and while we strive to seek the truth i think we also accept it as it is. very very clear article though :D.
