Daily diary entries detailing what my life is like day to day as a homeschooling Mom

Day 1, November 8, 2010 9:00 a.m.

I'm homeschooling two girls, they are Anne Marie, age 6 and Sarah Beth, age 4. Little Amy is my baby, she's 8 months tomorrow.

Got a doctor's appointment this afternoon so I expect that this morning's schooling will be rushed. It's 9:00 time to start Anne Marie out on a subject. Sarah still isn't dressed yet. She wants to wear her kitty costume all day. Not about to happen when we have to go somewhere but I might let her wear it to avoid a scene while I'm teaching Anne.

Day 1, November 8, 2010 10:00 a.m.

Anne Marie finished her math 15 min ago and I'm letting her have a break to snack. Sarah Beth got into trouble and had to stand in the corner. I almost fell asleep while teaching Anne Math. Got to get more sleep tonight than I have been. I'll need some Coffee before driving to the doctor's office. Fed Amy to sleep but she woke up as soon as I tried to set her down. Let her cry a little hoping she'd go back to sleep, no such luck. Time to start Anne's next subject.

Day 1, November 8 2010 11:16 p.m.

Things got a little hectic and I wasn't able to write again this morning. Got Anne Marie to do her Cursive writing, had the girls pick up their toys before lunch then it was a whirlwind of getting them ready, doing last minute chores so we could leave. We got to the doctor's office fine. Anne Marie's blood counts were great. We left about 4:30 and went by to visit with Dawn for a few minutes. We left Dawn's house at 5 and headed back towards home. We stopped at Walmart to do our shopping then by Mckie D's for a quick bite.

What a nightmare it is trying to shop for groceries with three young children in tow. We didn't get out of walmart until close to 8. After we ate, I had to go to the bathroom and wouldn't you know they'd be doing construction at McDonald's and their bathroom would be out of commision. We had to make one more stop on the way home. Of course, I did make sure both the older girls went and I changed Amy while we were there.

After such a long day you'd think I'd just come home and crawl into bed but no... After I put the girls to bed, all but Amy (who slept most of the ride home and decided to wake up as soon as I took her out of her carseat), I still had food to bring in and put away. Sis asked me if I got the pens and pencils she'd asked me to this morning (a conversation I cannot for the life of me recall) and of course the answer was no. Immediately she began all this teenage drama stuff and I just had too long a day to deal with it all. (Sis is my teenage sister who lives with us. I was homeschooling her but she wanted to go to public school so we enrolled her last year. She's sixteen and a sophmore.)

Well I thought we were over it, I'd asked Tony to pick some up for her tomorrow when he's out and about and she finished helping me bring stuff in so I could put it up. Then I noticed that it was after 10. 10 O'clock is her bedtime and we've been trying to enforce it more because of school especially. Well I realized the drama wasn't over when she threw another fit about being told it was time for bed. First she tried to ignore me and continue watching TV. I took the remote away and turned the TV off. Then she wanted to cuss me, something that would have made Tony lose his temper (I'm surprised I didn't fly off the handle myself with some of the things she called me.) I tried to reason with her, I tried to understand her but all I got was flack.

All in all I'd say I had a pretty rough day. The only thing that could have made it worse would have been if Tony (my husband) had been here when she tried to pull that not going to bed stuff. They always get into it when she does that and he's not even half as nice as I am when she tries to cuss him out. Thankfully, he's out enjoying the one night he has to go out since he doesn't have to go to work in the morning.

Hope I'll get more school done tomorrow. Sarah didn't have any today but she's still just learning Kindergarten stuff so it should be fine for her to miss a day.

I'm a 26 year old mother of three beautiful girls. I'm a poet, or a would be poet anyway. I love writing many different genres of fiction though. I have also written some articles but this is not my strong point.
