Life is a Dream, Just a bit Long

Life could well be a dream, but proving longer than the norm. However, we can wake up right here through forging better cooperation, learning from our mistakes and rising to higher consciousness. That way we are released from self-defeating pursuits that doom us repeatedly.

Life a Mystery

We will wake up eventually from our reverie, dream, after our present state of being on this planet. And then self- introspect, evaluate the different roles we played, what we learned in the process, and how they enrich us for our onward journey. Certain doors prove beyond us though some among us gain entry to our surprise and even consternation. It is like school examinations where the playful, unsung, spring a surprise! In our endless journey the good forging ahead, being better prepared can be the norm. It is only fair that they are rewarded. Our thought process leads us to our actions, exertions, or lack of them! Most beliefs lead to some form of existence beyond the present and our inner prompt should be based on some guidance, the seed having been implanted when we arrive here in full glory, promise. Of course, others just take it as all finished the moment we breathe our last here. However, what we do here should have some relevance later for the simple reason we cannot get due justice here – it is flawed mostly right from birth to the time we depart. The cheats should not get away though the good might not go after rewards; they do what they feel is right and most living for others by habit.

Life is fair

We have dreams and also nightmares. Sometimes, we get nightmares, out of the blue, of doing harm to our own dear and near ones for no reason. We might not even have thought about such but the seeds could have been implanted during our waking hours though we are oblivious to such thoughts. Life is rich in variety but we struggle to keep our thought process positive and also our actions guided by them. Negative forces envelope us like dark clouds and we struggle to overcome them. Our physical body also plays its part. But the beauty of life is anyone can lead a happy life – does not depend on our position in society or wealth. I get a feeling even those who suffered during earlier generations, when freedom was not universal, could have found happiness – though like squeezing blood out of stone! I feel life is fair when the poor find happiness more easily than the rich who have their wealth always at the back of their minds and suspect the well -meaning.

Life is what We Make of it

Each day is different with challenges one after another, the tougher ones giving more satisfaction when we overcome them! A life without much challenges or, worse, by avoiding them proves hollow. We should bite what we can chew to partake wholesomely what life has to offer. Many do that and rise to the occasion through biting the bullet! Our various stages in life present different opportunities and challenges too; we have to let go some to make seamless transition. Each comes with own charm and it is up to us to find its true meaning. Letting go the hurts is the way while, sometimes, seizing even the crumbs to stay alive! Ultimately no one owes us a living – it is up to us entirely. We come alone and leave ditto. We pick up the pieces we are given, do what we feel is right, and move on. That is fair enough; come to think of it, as we are ultimately responsible for our journey.

Our Pursuits

We do get a feeling of dreamlike existence often; we act and react, play our roles and sometimes blow our chances and pay the price! Is this what existence is about? Do we react to situations, take cover and live for self-interest? Are we supposed to play a greater role than avoid upsetting the apple cart? What else to do than spread some cheer and, for some, the opposite, sadly? Is there a soul, mind, spirit or life proves a damp squib in the end? What happens to our dear ones, some leaving before their time? Are they at peace wherever they are?

These questions have some answers in what we believe in. No one has come back to tell us where they go from here. Life and death remains the biggest mystery from time immemorial since man started to wrack his brain without much headway. I feel we all are in for surprises. Nothing ends what does not have a beginning. The soul is eternal - we all have inkling of it! Those who believe our lives just end here too believe they could be proved wrong and also who believe life is eternal could have doubts. Will we ever solve this most important puzzle to understand why we are born and then leave without any prior warning, sometimes? We always get a feeling that time is running out but none knows the exact time.

Time to Reflect

Though we struggle with the notion of life and death due to our inability to comprehend the ultimate truth, we can still find much meaning in our lives. We can analyse our history, journey thus far, follies and then eschew those that pull us down and force us in a vicious circle of doom and gloom.

Ultimate truth - We are one and same: Great minds are behind various beliefs. We should analyse, synthesize, to get to their core and find a common path.

Cooperate – With hate springing easier than love, the only way forward is cooperation for coexistence. Agree to disagree, but cooperate for a higher purpose.

Clear the deck of hostility and negativity – Negative thoughts permeate our daily lives as we see and hear much not to our liking. But we gain only through overcoming them.

Embrace nature and be part of it – Stay close to nature as it nurtures us like a loving mother. Our lifestyle is hostile to it but it has managed to bend backwards to sustain us.

Pass on a better world – This is universally accepted, so let us use it as the foundation to find peace and all round progress.

Towards Higher Consciousness

We should evolve to reach a higher level of existence step-by-step. At this moment, we allow negativity to ride roughshod to make us in a defensive, evasive, mode most of the time having to justify what we pursue all the time. The way we pursue our life rewards us with friendship or creates enmity. There is no way one can conquer others and force them to adapt different lifestyles. That way we only create further hostility and multiply the issues. Having time to pursue what really matters in a cooperative way will unite us eventually. That way we wake up from the dream right here to find bliss and fulfillment. We have traveled a long way already to know what works for us in the end. There is no need to reinvent the wheel of life but time for us to take it to another level of higher conscience and consciousness. Yes, it is time to wake up!

Very wise.
I love the picture of kids meditating. All schools should teach it.

Thank you C D Moore for appreciating. Though I do not meditate every day, or at particular times, it is so calming and soothes our stress-filled lives. For me, when we eschew ego we attain bliss mainly through a feeling of empathy. The image is from Wikimedia Commons. We need to pause and reflect - then we become aware life is just a dream and we play different roles - child, parent, relative, friend, while some act hostile! But we live by our conscience and try to leave a better world, at least to those we become part of and that could be destiny at play - the real purpose and context we might know only later - siva

Life is a Dream, Just a bit Long.

Nice thoughts.

This is so positive as was thinking that 'life is short' which I felt is a negative thought.

Thanks Rathna. For some, life proves very short indeed while for others it is longer than they expected. However, finding enduring meaning in our lives is a daily challenge and our health plays an important role in that. Hopefully, the One who send us here will take us back too with a feeling that we did our best in the circumstances - the onus still one us! siva

Thanks jpcmc. All promises for a better life are stymied due to our own negativity. Mother Earth through ever forgiving nature bends over backwards not only to satisfy our needs but the greed too. siva

Thank you Rukmini. We take up various roles - children, parents, grandparents, friends even enemies but soon it is over, leaving just a dream when the person leaves for good! Enjoy the moments and do good to others - that is the only way to attain happiness even bliss. For me, I will try to give more than I take, at least that is my aim, and when the other person feels happiness I too am happy! siva

Yes, a blink for the Creator, but we try to make sense of it; time not to repeat the same mistakes! Einstein's words are apt - insanity is doing the same over and and over and expecting different results! Thanks, Rama-ji. Namaste - siva
