Myriad of human emotions serve to enliven our lives, the more the merrier! Let us accept all with an approach of give and take and savor the rich moments. Variety is, after all, the spice of life.

Myriad of Emotions & Role-play

The variety in human emotions not only keeps us on guard but also enliven our moments. We are not only different in subtle ways but also we react differently from time to time. We size up people and instinctively change our reaction. We become aware where others come from to make up our minds how to react to different situations and people. Even among close family members we have to role-play what we are to different people. We find even other species have hierarchical set-ups and each knows their position. Basically we can change only so much as we are born with certain characteristics that are tough to override. I find comfort in being who I am and never act up or try to show what I am not.

Finding Comfort

We find comfort in familiar surroundings. When faced with people less familiar to us we take time to open-up and for them to feel comfortable with us too. Then it should be smooth sailing or just agree to disagree based on common interest of survival. When the push comes to shove we try to assert or leave for more comfortable pastures. These apply to family lives and at workplace. I have seen colleagues unable to cooperate and surviving amid much tension. Some just cannot accept others as they are. I have also worked with few who cannot live in peace needlessly needling others!

Practical to Emotional

The variety in the behavior of people is mind boggling. I have seen the very practical, never-say-die, approach of few and also the extremely emotional among us. It is a pleasure to be with former while with the latter one has to be on guard. A slight misstep will be enough to ruin our day! But I have no issues as the practical is easy going while the emotional can perform better when in the right frame of mind and environment – they are ready to go the extra mile. But such times are rare mostly!

Flexible Approach

I keep a straight face and those with me think nothing fazes me, but I stay alert to colleagues and family members so that they also feel comfortable and valued. We all have to evaluate our options so that people with different emotional levels feel counted. Some feel depressed easily and give up while others strive harder to prove themselves. For me I evaluate the situation, lick the wounds, and redouble my efforts or just change course if my goal is not accepted by others.

Stages of Life

Our approach to life also undergoes subtle changes over time. The expectations that others have of us also play a part. We have to act our age and the responsibilities that go with it! At work place age plays a part and it balances itself out nicely in the end. Life should be a seamless transition and progression though our health could be in regression! We keep learning all the time and when we have the right approach we ease into sunset years with a gaze fixated on a faraway horizon with a glint in our eyes even with failing eyesight, but our third eye should make things clear! However one should step up to reach that level. Our emotions should be under control so that others also feel it worthwhile to give us company.

Remain Human

We have lived from time immemorial enjoying each stage of life. It is a constant give and take. We adapt. Childhood should be carefree as adults take care of us. Teenagers are given much leeway but we have to learn the lessons of our follies and not make irreversible mistakes in the first place! Soon it is time for taking up responsibilities at home front and at workplace; then a ride into sunset years with memories worthy of recall.

It is emotions that make us human, enliven our lives. It is a thrill to share with loved ones our daily experiences and see how they react, and we support each other. Human empathy is what makes us get over trying times. We can progress scientifically and spend time doing own things but there should be limits to such pursuits especially in terms of time spent. The means, our efforts are towards staying united as a society. Once that bonding unravels our end will be nigh. The basic premise of human life should never be lost and the best legacy we can leave behind is lives well balanced and lived for others. Such approach will reward all and material wealth is not a limiting factor to lead such a life. Life is always fair unless we heap misery on ourselves with our attitude. Let there be myriad of emotions to captivate and unite us!

A very encouraging, inspiring and uplifting write Siva, perfectly presented as always.
You are truly the voice of reason and common sense amongst the bitter and would be power control individuals we come across in life, all too frequently.
Our emotions are very powerful tools and can produce wonderful things, if used to the good.
Thank you my dear friend.

Thank you Mariah for your kind words of support as always. We are emotional beings and look out for support especially in trying times. I become aware when my family members or colleagues are hurting. Words of support go a long way for them to ease back on the right track. To feel totally isolated or ignored is a tough position to overcome alone. After all it does not cost much but only time and some kind words. Seeing the smile back on their faces in a flash make our day too! If only we showed more empathy our world will be right up there overlooking heaven! siva

Prefer remaining true to the emotion of my heart and if the Angels deem that I am needed their way, I will go to them and no qualms at all as I love being who I am in life and do everything in life with a prayer as I know the One Above is my knower and guide through all that there is and bringing back the emotion of life and well-being just the way I am.

None the less in the stages of evolution of a Female I would take the highest rung out there but will not descend to old age as I know I would never reach there although I respect all those who have decently reached out there attaining the highest possible recognition for their lifetime.

Our conscience never fails us unless we are prejudiced in our thinking. So I keep thinking positive all the time even when things are the pits. The darkest time is just before dawn, as the saying goes.

We all have to pass through stages in life but can seamlessly move from one to another. Being no longer young I can say each stage gives fulfillment when we have the right frame of mind. Thank you Lady Aiyanna, life is never meant to a be a bed of roses but we move forward with a glint of hope in our eyes looking for meaning along the way, even squeezing blood from stone - siva

Loverme, it took me a while to get back to harsh reality of life here, descend step by step from the stratosphere you lifted me up with such kind words. All my posts are based on experiences of my life - and I learn more from the bitter! Thank God, I had enough of them like anyone else but not enough to make me bitter in my outlook!

I take a view that what others do and practice are their karma - past, present and the future path they create for themselves. That means good deeds will always be rewarded. When most think negatively it is all the more reason for us to shine our torch of positiveness and it will serve like a lighthouse, burning bright, showing the right way.

I embrace all without borders - are we not short-changing ourselves by creating artificial borders? It is elementary my dear Loverme, wisdom is not confined to any particular faith, even atheists have them in plenty!

I am just me - though named after three revered Gods and I should take care not to besmirch their names in anyway, try even to live up to their ideals! Tough call, being just human!

You have created your own identity through your work worrying about blossoming love among teenagers that you warn could be plain old lust! But you are indeed a knight in shining armor. Thanks again dear friend - siva

The range of emotions is only limited to your expression of them, but they all come in a way from love. Even the negative emotions come from the energy of love, being funnelled negatively through a focusing agent of a negative thought or a fear that is being held onto, too dear.

Fear is a type of emotion too, but it is more the combination of a feeling of a lack of love and a negative thought, because you think that you are unloved, and so you feel insecure, and so a fear then develops in you stemming from this insecurity.

Much food for thought here, a great article!

Thank you Spirited for your input. When I feel defeated in my efforts, I look at what made me pursue the goal and it usually dawns on me that it was after all not worth it! We have so many choices so better to change course and pursue those that suit our outlook and interests. I wish we all, including countries, reassessed our goals every few years including whose interests we are serving.

Yes, individually we all liked to be loved and feel wanted and the fear is always there that we will be cast away, no more relevant - increasingly so in an age when others do not have the most precious commodity - time! siva

I love your picture honoring the soldier -- especially close to Veteran's Day here in the states. While I hope for peace, I respect the soldiers very much. I also loved the image of the 7 stages of woman -- comparing that to Jacques' speech in Shakespeare's As You Like It is only natural -- that soliloquy is one of my favorites! Whole article well done as usual!

Thanks Phyl for your valuable input and thoughts. Though our wish is for peace all around, we need protection and defense against the evil who wait to decimate the innocents. And soldiers put their lives on the line. I am sure we all will realize that wars can be avoided with the right attitude and cooperation among the majority who have no evil intentions. Our future shines brighter when we improve the relationship with our emotional self. This is because positive emotions increase life satisfaction by building resilience. Keeping a lid on our emotions has long been thought to be bad for mental and physical health. In fact it is true that it could actually knock years off our life. Yet few seem to be able to do just that!

The important thing to remember is that everybody has emotions, so people should not be used as pawns. Remember, “what you do to others, you do to yourself."

Well done, dear Siva.

Thanks for your insightful input as usual dear Subra. Emotions make us human but sometimes other species beat us in exhibiting them more than us! Many tend to get guarded in expressing even positive emotions, sadly. I try to be truthful when dealing with others as it is the right thing to do and sits lightly on my conscience. I find most reciprocate with the same approach. We all want to lead peaceful lives and for that we have to embrace variety as the spice of life - siva
