Live in a World where we Find Comfort

Let us make wise choices of lifestyles than be misled by those that bode us harm. By making wise choices we can also nudge others away from harm and towards a life of fulfillment for overall peace and harmony.

Time - the Precious Commodity

The world moves on at a fast clip and we feel powerless. We get carried away and just have to swim with the tide. There is less time to pause and share as each is in own world increasingly. Everyone is short of the precious commodity that bound us as society – time for each other. We are always rushing from point A to B. Many are moving to cities where one hardly knows their neighbor. The world is our oyster and we should be prepared to move across countries. Technology has made some strange bedfellows, most prominent of them – America and China. It is like we cannot live with them but also cannot live without them! Men and women ditto in the modern world where one has to tread on thin ice to maintain family peace. There is little quarter for failure and mistake as reactions can be swift but words still hurt like a sharp knife!

Make own Space

None can stop the march of time and I avoid the word “progress” as it depends on how we define the term. Technology-wise it is a resounding yes, but in terms of human bonding it is a grey area. Individualistic pursuits can cause us harm and disharmony putting paid to the efforts over generations to forge peace and harmony through inclusiveness. There are some who just do not care where their lives lead us to as long as they are left alone. But most cannot forget and ignore to reflect on the paths we take. There are times we become aware through rude awakenings and to pick up the pieces does not come easy. So we have to find our own comfort zones and provide enough space within them. And also the pace we are comfortable with to avoid the minefields even as we try to catch up with others ahead and feeling the heat of those behind us! So it is a constant evaluation to make sense of our place amid the maddening fury of life threatening to get out of control.

Become aware of Pitfalls

Many are in pursuits that are not of their choice. For some it is a dead end just eking out a living with the threat on livelihood at the back of the mind. Ambition is preferred to laid-back style but there is always a cost to be paid in the lifestyles we embrace. It cuts both ways. One has to be prepared to face the consequences and setbacks. Constant reverses can make anyone go out of control and life takes turns that we are unprepared for. I take constant review whether the effort I put in is worth it in terms of overall reward. Why not think of an alternate lifestyle forsaking those that bring constant misery? Life is worthless if we get enslaved to pursuits that are plain agony.

Assess the Paths to take

How much of a choice we have? I have seen some living on own terms but they are few. They know the price they pay and not much concerned with monetary rewards and wealth as a deciding factor in career choice. It requires strength of character and will power to understand and stand by the potential and the limitations imposed. Life is enriching when we have many components to fall back upon as time also takes its toll on us. Seamless passage from one stage to another is a beautiful way to live but that requires wise choices to be made from time to time.

Doors Open and Close

Doors keep opening but some have also to be force shut. It does no good when we are ejected against our choice. For me I find bliss when with those who are easily satisfied and they are classified as mostly poor. It is tough to satisfy the rich as greed encroaches upon their lives and envelops them as they rise higher in the ladder. Others are used as tools to stoke the fires of their wealth pursuits and many are ready to be thus used for making quick bucks. The choice is clear that a lifestyle that is decided by hard work lasts and also spreads the cheer around. To be useful to many should be a preferred choice as removing ourselves from the crowd around us proves a misery.

So I keep trying to close doors so that I have the time to open new ones all the time. It does not mean closing them on the face of those who helped me along but slowly moving away so that I can embrace others who fall more in line with my lifestyle. And thank God, there are many similarly attuned who are ever ready to accept others anytime. The good is always in the majority and may their tribe increase through the wise choices we make and by sharing the good vibes around. We have to send subtle messages so that others get the hint than be misled by all that glitters. The world will be a better place when we do our part and keep others from harm.

Man is looking for the elusive peace of mind for 5000 years. Are we near it ?

Thanks Madan - technology has made clear the wish of the vast majority. We are certainly nearer to peace of mind in the sense that nine out of ten want peace on give and take approach. I can say that because I meet people of all faiths and most want to be left alone but a minority puts paid to their desire to live in peace. We should stop being manipulated and create a place for them to a deathly duel so that others are left alone to find peace within family and countries! siva

It would be so wonderful dear Siva to live on this earth where everyone had sufficient and all was at peace and rest , and life was fair to all at all times ....but for the vast majority that is sadly not reality ..
One day I believe it will be , but not yet , not while the enemy of our soul is still at large .
You have a good heart and want only the best for your fellow man , and I pray God bless you greatly for that .
Many blessings

Making time for each other is of great value, and yet we are all guilty of getting caught up in the pace our own lives, often taking for granted those people in out lives we should endeavor to spend quality time with.
Peace of mind and peace on earth should always be our main priority.
We must remain true to ourselves, but we must also live and let live
A truly impressive and inspiring piece of writing Siva
my dear friend.

Thank you Mariah. All my life, and wherever I have lived, I have observed many taken for granted and they are those who are crucial to our well being. Few manage to get attention and live it up. I wish them well too but the salt of the earth are those who do their work quietly - just give more than take. Our justice system is flawed but they deserve due reward - siva

Time is the constant... we are ever changing... the older I get the more I come to understand the elusive meaning of this---What amazing wisdom is found in your article Siva...! "But most cannot forget and ignore to reflect on the paths we take."..."The choice is clear that a lifestyle that is decided by hard work lasts and also spreads the cheer around..." One of my Dad's favorite sayings was this- hard work is its own reward...I can even to this day hear his voice in my ear when life's problems seem insurmountable... my Mom however would always softened her approach to life, by just simply saying- It is the trying that matters, time will be the final measurer after it all. Siva your articles are always profound and stirring and ever so enriching...thank you.

Thank you Delicia, I am grateful for your sharing the wisdom and wise words of your parents. Like most of the older generation they have seen life and learned from experiences they have gone through. Likewise, my parents have left a deep impression through how they lived their lives - mostly minding own business but never missing an opportunity to be of help to others. Personal inconveniences were never an issue to them as their efforts themselves were the reward. I have seen super rich living their lives they think are at the pinnacle of achievement but scratch the surface it becomes clear they rob from the poor to fuel their greed - enough said! And the wealth they bequeath becomes a burden and liability to their children! However the lure of wealth proves overwhelming for them to let go especially in Asia. I admire Buffet and Gates for their charity for rightful causes and not burdening their children with a stupendous load - siva

Siva, the question of how much of a choice we have is crucial. Technology has brought us many benefits, especially information technology. It has also created new inroads for unscrupulous persons and groups to define our choices for us. This is why we need time to withdraw from the world with its blinking neon signs and flashing computer screens every once in a while.

Thank you Anand for your comment. Technology cuts both ways and so far so good is the refrain as despite reverses we have managed to keep our heads above water. But we cannot breathe easily as evil minds are working overtime to create havoc that may make the 9/11 look like a walk in the park! The good have to rally and thankfully most see coexistence as the only way to survive - siva

Thank you Jackalyn. I feel the older generation should also remind the young that there is more to life than the gadgets and chasing after wealth. They are inanimate and prove worthless in times of need. Some may have a take it is better to have wealth than nothing but soon it becomes clear it is the wealth that is more important than us to others. So a balanced life makes our days right through - siva

Dear Siva
My view is that the best way forward is to be prepared, understand the reason behind every unwelcome event, seize the opportunities as they come, have the right mental attitude, recognise your strengths, let time be your healer, be productive, look towards the future with optimism and have faith in yourself. You can do whatever you set out to once you’re ready and believe in yourself.
That is the world where we should find comfort.and not in the mad fury of the perceived reality we see ourselves in now.
Congrats again Siva

Well said and real attitude with survival instincts, dear Subra. The world is spinning faster I feel as I grow older. So my head too likewise! Difficult to get a word in when we are in such a frenzy. I tell around cool it, easy, easy - not that anyone bothers to listen as their ears are plugged in to many a gadget! I go around like in good old days with a smile on my face. Some do notice and ask me what is behind that smile I wear - I tell them you have no time to listen anyway, thanks for noticing! siva

Somehow it is getting tougher day by day to leave a peaceful life- where we are not judged as to whether we are able to accomplish like XYZ or do something like ABC. It would perhaps take a great mental courage to be different in this world.

Thank you Ptrikha. We have to find our comfort zones than be carried away. Life has to be enjoyed in entirety. We should reassess our priorities often. I would say we change every five years and so that is good time frame to re-prioritize. I have seen some holding on to immense wealth till the last moment testing the patience of close family members! siva

Oh that's a great piece of item to share! We can discuss and explore many windows of it...Philosophically, religiously and scientifically too.
Interesting to me is - I never thought of my time until I was at the age of forty. When I was at thirty I got first knock of losing time. Up till twenty- time was like plenty and life is wide open. After that time has gone- calculation of using it began- and time running out faster than ever...
Great work Sivaji and nice pictures too....

Thank you dear Karim, so happy to see your comments on my pages again. For a child, twenty year old person is quite old. For one who is twenty, forty is old. A young man told me - his boss is quite old, at least fifty!

Our life is beautiful if we live our age than try to compete with those much younger. Each stage in life has its beauty and rewards provided we have the right mentality - siva
