Look Within for Shift in Consciousness

Daily news is mostly negative and leaves a pall of gloom all around. It is mainly greed, wars and bombing, but peace proves elusive. It is time for the majority writ for peace to run through a shift in consciousness - and not a day too soon!

Not a Day too soon

When we read daily news headlines we know nothing much changes except the gadgets that look glitzier by the day. But those that need to change do not but get worse when the destructive power of weapons increases and are made more easily available. Despite our yearning for peace few spread pall of gloom all around as the raison d'être for their existence; they even create strife and misunderstanding where none existed. They stoke the flames of emotions pitting the world at each other’s throats and create divisions all around. We have found no way to escape this vicious cycle and only a shift in consciousness will bring change. This is not a pipe dream as it has happened many times in history like when countries became democratic, iron curtain came crashing down and China integrated to the world order. However, we need a more momentous push forward not only to achieve our true potential but also to reach our goal before we destroy ourselves through harakiri!

Mental Blocks

We find some mental blocks tough to eject. Top in the list is mutual suspicion and looking to wars as an easy way out without exhausting peace options. We even sow the seeds of war! Once bitten twice shy is forgotten as we resort to wars at the drop of a hat! It proves no panacea as the problems only get compounded. One tyrant is gone but it is a many headed hydra! The end result is innocents are sacrificed without solving the issues or learning the lessons. The greatest weapon is going all out for peace by getting rid of weapons, not keeping the cookie jar within sight enticing all to have a go at it! Let everyone make a worthwhile effort – peace is not unmanly – there are enough sports for our macho men to prove their prowess in other ways!

Unity our Savior

Big powers play endless games one-upping They divide others – either you are with us or against us. They play bullies and set agenda against the will of not only others but also those yearning for peace and they make up the famous 99%. What a cruel irony when the writ of few run rough shod over the vast majority! The latter’s message does not ring loud and clear and are ignored. We need leaders to get us out of this cesspool. The real reason for wars is poverty – our physical needs and also of the mind! The message is now getting louder that war is no option and is forced upon the majority. It creates mayhem and all round cynicism when taken as the easy way out. It is proved beyond doubt the innocents suffer while the real enemies are spared as they are just too powerful so others are used as pawns. Some are made sacrificial lambs. Any new flare up will end up as another operation successful but patient dead! There is no victory in wars, only misery!

Harmony with Nature

It is time we found not only peace and but also harmony with nature. Nature is a great teacher – how to reinvent and stick to basics, creative destruction and waste nothing. It takes time to evolve and no stopgap measures. When it has evolved over billions of years, why not we stick to basics in areas that are vital for not only our existence but also all others both seen and unseen? Live and let live is ingrained in the way nature works; all have enough space to survive. Those trying to get too big for comfort are shown the door like the dinosaurs that paid the ultimate price while others survived. Size goes not matter in the end! We prove worse than dinosaurs when we willfully destroy what is so lovingly laid before us for survival of all. Every day is a gift to be treasured and not a devil’s workshop thinking of destroying others – we have enough space for everyone and never forget universe is still expanding at a fast clip! And we have multi-verse to fall back upon!

Our Legacy – Better World

I do not know what legacy means to us when we are no more around. However, mankind is supposed to survive forever; maybe, our hubris is our downfall as the Creator may be thinking of other possibilities without us featuring in His calculations! Did He not kill dinosaurs et al. in one fell swoop! He knows when to press the creative destruction button – take nothing for granted, but we are given many chances. So lap them up and not go at each other’s throats. Nip the issues in the bud. Weapons are everywhere and dealers of them know their ways to get them across. They never land on wrong hands – they are sold to them at a higher profit - pure business motive and greed driven! Some are waiting for bombs to rain in to buy stocks as they crash!

We are grappling with issues every day that are mostly self-created and emanate from the sick minds of few. But the majority suffers like they did right throughout our history. We get carried away by what we see and hear, but do we bother to listen to the call of our consciousness? There is a clarion call for peace for our genuine progress and not the cosmetic that we get carried away with. Creation is on the move every moment and we can play meaningful role when we are able to contribute positively. It is time we let go our past after having learned the right lessons and made a shift in our consciousness for the betterment of all. That way we lend our shoulders to the wheel guided by an unseen force. For that we should look to the road ahead – onward, forward in our shared journey. At least we do what comes naturally to us and not used by few for their selfish ends – that is the shift in consciousness needed to take us to the next level.

Nice post Siva, but peace has eluded man for 4000 years and don't forget the Mahabharta glorified war. Even the divine message of the lord the Gita talks of war as a duty.

Thank you Madan. Humanity yearns for peace and war should be the last resort and directed against despots and not resorted to for political gains. Now the poorest of the poor and the most innocent suffer most. Now weapons are merchandise put out for display. They are freely made available and sold to anyone. Countries that cannot meet their basic needs and whose citizens die of hunger have to stock them against their neighbors as they happen to be enemies too!

War defeats the essence of humanity. The majority are drawn into it through the machinations of few and used as a tool and a pawn. It is time we learned the lessons from history and we can discharge our duty through fighting for peace which is a war in itself! We have enough tools by now to make the majority voice for peace to ring true and loud - siva

Thanks Winn. If we shed our ego we align completely with nature easily. I have broken down all barriers even with strangers as we are same pursuing same goals. We are bit players, like ants now, due to our division. When we are in communion with nature we realize our true self and elevate ourselves to a higher level of existence - siva

Thank you Wonder. Few take wars as inevitable and talk of a world living in peace as idealistic thinking. I feel that way we take a defeatist view surrendering reason.

We should stop glorifying wars, weapons, as they kill the most innocent and even the decorated soldiers kill the most vulnerable in the opposite side - those killed are just like them with families waiting back home. In fact, there is no glory in winning wars and they should be the very last resort but now even big powers take on soft targets - just proxy wars using others as pawns - what a terrible karma. We know what to do; we have to just make a go for it through a shift in our consciousness! siva

When we learn to love the Lord our God with all our heart and all our mind and all our strength , and our neighbour as ourselves , then we will have no need of weapons , and war will cease, my dear friend ....but the question is ...When ?
God bless you

Thanks Stella - it can be now if commonsense prevails. We have learned enough from history and it is clear that the poor are worse off after each war while the arms merchants benefit. The majority anywhere has nothing against each other as their common enemy is poverty - siva

Thanks again Snerfu. A poor person is same everywhere and the rich is also ditto! But I still cannot understand leaving almost 100% of the fortune to their children like most do in Asia. I salute the many in Western countries who donate for worthwhile causes like Buffet and Gates and even goad others to do their share. I have seen the richer one gets the more averse the tendency to help others - siva

Actually, the concept of leaving everything is more psychological than social. Now the concept of enjoying one's wealth is catching on even in India. Case in point, reverse mortgage loans helps people to avail of money and spend it before they die. So, I think it is a matter of perspective.

Thanks again Snerfu. Reverse mortgage loan is sort of an attempt to meet the basics when other options have run out. I do hope the rich in India give back to society too as the seeds of richness are implanted in their society - siva

Being rich or poor seldom plays a part if you really think about but learning to be contented is the goal. Do expect anything from anyone. Be one with God. Hold your mind still. You don'r really need that much.

Thanks Kalai for your philosophical take. Individually we take a stand and thankfully most are contented but few leave destruction all around by being greedy and the way they try to march ahead of others by manipulating society around them. Everything becomes expendable for them including human lives as they march ahead inexorably - siva

Outstanding piece of journalism Siva
Peace and harmony is the vital key in the creating of an inclusive society, it is what the majority of people in countries all over the world want.
Power greed and manipulation
have been the dominant and destructive factors for far too long.
The voice of the people themselves must be heard and adhered to.
You speak for the majority my friend.

Thanks Mariah - so happy to read your comments. We all know to make wise choices - there is no hatred in the hearts of the majority but they are manipulated still by few. Let us realize the real enemy is everywhere - poverty, insecurity and hypocrisy. When we eschew greed and ego and opt for inclusive society we are at the gates of a new era - siva

Dear Siva
The most noble and worthy thing we can all do as individuals, as you have correctly said Siva, is to raise our individual level of consciousness to higher levels. By doing this, we spread such levels to everyone around us which in turn creates a better world. The spin-off benefit is that more and more people will do the same, the resultant effect being that we create an incredible world. Great Siva

Thanks dear Subra for your wise input and counsel. The more the darkness the brighter will be the shine of light. I have seen plain good behavior is sometimes treated as a surprise but so much welcomed. We never feel sorry when we help others in need - it gives a spring in our walk. It is so easy to break down walls when we do the right thing - what comes naturally to us. We think others are different but we are all just the same with similar feelings - let us not live in fear - siva
