Love and Hate Emanate from the Same Source

Our thoughts and actions originate from the same source. Moral dualism is at play every moment and it is up to us to overcome the challenges posed by them. We should never forget this is a shared world underpinned by coexistence and harmony.

Moral Dualism

Life is always a challenge but that makes it worth living. We grapple with moral dualism between the good and the evil; similarly, between the benevolent and malignant. When we make a wrong choice we pay a price sooner or later. But life’s journey makes one take wrong turns as to err is only human. Those able to control their emotions through patience and forgiveness are few and most succumb to impromptu negative reactions causing misery to others and also to them. Though love and hate emanate from the same source the latter trumps the former judging by daily news headlines. Negativity is aimed at bringing down others while we are miserly with positive show of feelings. Out of sight is out of mind and those who are strangers are less trusted. Our lifestyle and history keep us on guard. We are unable to break out of this rut. Our leaders too flail their arms in desperation as opponents keep them pinned down.

Reality of Society

Despite the pall of gloom due to negativity, when love triumphs we feel its impact and yearn for more of such deeds. But we have many excuses that life is hard and why should we give when others only take. Such attitudes stretch from within families to between countries. We are afraid of being taken advantage of and become guarded. We are not given any free lunches so let others also be denied such. The rich who made all their wealth from society around them also feel they are entitled to every cent. I have seen the very rich afraid to spend, and die rich after living a pauper’s life! They know all along that they have to leave every cent behind but it does not register much when they are blinded and surrounded by those that glitter.

Finding Balance

We are surrounded by duality around us in every way and it is for us to find proper balance to lead meaningful lives:

Love and Hate: Love should be unconditional but that does not come easy in the real world. We have to be on guard not to be taken advantage of. It should also be reciprocated to make it meaningful and sustainable. After all, we are human and we expect some returns by way of appreciation of good deeds. Hate is trying to get even, making others miserable. Then we feel we have made our point and some feel good about it too! But eventually we pay a heavy price when our deeds and attitude take their toll with compound interest. They soon become a habit and a one way street to doom.

Creation and Destruction: We are born with creative instincts and urges, but also destroy for one reason or another. We have creative destruction concept too where destruction leads to better ways of creation and production. Creation takes time but destruction comes easy.

Physical and spiritual: Body and soul need to be in proper balance for us to find mental peace. We should not neglect one for the other but always be aware of the needs of both in our thoughts and actions.

Yin and Yang: Chinese philosophy highlights how opposites can coexist in harmony and in proper balance. They relate to male and female, light and dark, active and passive, motion and stillness etc.

Constant Challenges

All these thoughts and philosophies lead us to the reality that life is meaningful only where there is balance. But our history is replete with excesses of aggressive behavior that puts paid to years of hard work towards peace. The destruction comes out of the blue with emotions trumping logic and reason. Then the ego at every level that we are right and others always wrong and such inflexible approach leads to perpetual strife. These acts transcend from countries to societies to individual levels making our lives a misery. The challenges in our lives can be overcome only through cooperative efforts with the ultimate of coexistence. For that we should analyse the great philosophies that enrich our lifestyles and take control of the direction to take it to reach another level. Without finding balance at every stage, keeping in view the sustainability of our actions or lack thereof, we will never be able to leave the present state of affairs. Are we not perpetually feeling lost? Whoever our leaders are, they are going around in circles. The moment a fresh window of opportunity opens we are assailed by crosswinds of dissent to pin us down at the base level.

Our Journey but Guided by Unseen Hand

Despite all the material progress and scientific advancement, we are stuck in a rut. This is mainly due our foundations being unstable and having to restart the building process time and again. Negative reactions create a pall of gloom and festers. Sadly, it becomes contagious – sort of tit for tat. As Mahatma Gandhi said - an eye for eye reaction will make the whole world go blind! The beauty of creation is our fate is up to us and also what steps we take originates from what we think, how we react to various situations and even provocations. Positive and negative, love and hate, are from the same source and without heeding the consequences of our actions we all can perish playing with fire. It is up to us to live in heaven or self-created hell. The latter course is tragic as whoever brought us here made sure we were provided with enough and more to live well and share too. Let us never forget it is meant to be a shared world! But selfishness rules at every level, our bane! Our planet evolved to maturity before we came and then gave us everything to our heart’s content – sort of the chosen one – but we are proving a spoiled child! The Creator wants us to take ultimate and individual responsibility but guides, reinvents and replenishes, through His unseen hand! The duality at play is so enriching from man, woman to heaven and hell – and, of course, the innumerable choices we have in between. Our source is the same but the choices are ours as we march ahead along with the whole creative process of our universe or even multiverses. Let us play a positive part than blow what is given, without much thought. When the next door opens we should be able to look at those in the other side in the eye. That comes with having done our best with love trumping hate!

Thank you Johnbee for your comments. We have limitations but we do come to this world with a spark inside that tells us what is right from wrong. Of course, we are carried away by our senses but we should find balance between a material world and the spiritual - siva .

Excellent Siva!
Day and night, waking and sleeping, love and hatred, black and white, male and female, past and future, work and play, movement and stillness, all and nothing, birth and death and practically everything in this earthly life of ours has duality. One cannot exist without the other. That is the very essence of life where God gives a wonderful opportunity to strike a balance between the two to achieve unity. It is up to us human beings to decide whether the positive value should trump the negative one or vice versa – the choice is ours and ours alone, but alas because we are not infallible we often stumble into the negative side of duality, only to realise later the folly of our actions! We often fail to see that these values co-exist and that one cannot exist without the other. This duality is creation itself! All these values – the positive and the negative - are one, except that as human beings we are not able to appreciate their unity! Once we can see this unity then we realise the truth of life and and our very existence! Love Subra

Dear Subra, reading your gem of a comment, I realize what we miss here. We need such wise inputs to enrich this site but also your posts that have gone missing for months. I had written in the previous article that our Creator wanted us to be in heaven right here than for us to wait for Him to take the lead and do the hard work at another place. Are we not proving ungrateful that all the inputs and efforts He has put in so lovingly is being spurned? The diversity He has given is to enrich our lives - unity in diversity is clearly written all over but we cannot see the forest for the trees. We are at each other's throat just because others look different and have different views. But scratch the surface, we are same. Even after thousands of generations believing in different Gods, we will be created the same as we are part of nature. It is like someone walking around in office with a huge ego - I know everything under and even above the sun feel. One took up the cudgels to tell him on the face that such attitude stinks big time and his reply - I know that also! That could well be what we tell our one Creator - we know our mistakes but will not change for the better - we want things still better! Put out the evil and allow only us in! Thanks Subra - time for you to jump in again! siva

Thank you Madan. Hatred is pervasive and comes easy - but love is restricted within a small circle. Some try for unity/disunity through spreading hatred and even religion and beliefs are used as tools! That way the majority innocents can be manipulated. Once we rise above such petty thoughts - well, we are in heaven right here and He will extend our lease in perpetuity! I, for one, won't mind as I believe in diversity! siva

hello Siva my friend . You have chosen a controversial subject again , which of course is open to debate . But we like such subjects here as they give birth to different viewpoints . I wrote a poem on the four kinds of love . Three are human one is Divine , which are Storge , mother to child love . Phileo , brotherly, sisterly love . Eros love Romantic , sexual love , and last but not least Agape love , the love that lays down its life if need be for another , whether deserved or not . We can only have the last kind of love with the help of God Himself through His Holy Spirit .We are exhorted to love one another , in the right way , that would not willingly harm another , but Hate evil and every form of evil ....Hatred of people can ultimately lead to murder , and all in between . It has no love in it . This kind of hatred is diabolical . Both love and hate are very powerful words , and should not be used lightly .
Bless you for this write . Glad you received a star for it .

Thank you Stella for your comments. I welcome your views that are enriching. My post was based on what I perceive in life. Children are divine and God's gift but soon they are exposed to the real world. Some can adjust and assimilate but few find the going tough. I am still quite unable to comprehend the need for hypocrisy present everywhere and the rampant greed. But I also admire few who spread cheer and accept the diversity. Creation is such that diversity is encouraged and we should thrive in it. How we adapt and take the right path decide how meaningful our lives are. I have seen few who only see the positivism even when majority see the opposite. They keep the world well oiled with their approach. How we embrace the basic concept of creation decides how comfortable we are in life. Once we take a wrong turn, we have opportunities to retract but not beyond a point. For me, the inner spark tells me not to go beyond a limit but then the final decision is still mine.

One of the first sentences I remember from childhood is - God is Love. But in a real world people tend to justify their thoughts and actions that are not borne out of love, sadly. Dualism is beautifully balanced in creation and we should also be comfortable with the concept. Spread love but limit hate - for me I have succeeded in eschewing negative thoughts and actions as they only lead to punishing myself needlessly, a burden and a waste of time - siva

when creation speaks love permeates everything around breaking the shackles of hate and violence to bring about the change in the environment that no one else can fathom but the ones going through it.
Everyone hhas a positive and negative side as we are electro magnets of creation. Which side holds better depends on the magnetic intensity as only positive joins negative to bring a change or negattive joins positive. I prefer the latter as positive vibrations create patterns of intensity that attracts particles in a far better manner than the negative which is hidden down below.
Electro magnets are created and the powers can be directed as per user intensity and requirement which is unlikely in the case of a regular magnet which is fixed in its intensity and loses power each time its falls.

Thanks Lady Aiyanna, your comments are really scientific blended with philosophy. When we accept the truth that all roads paved with good intentions and peace lead to a better world, we are on the right track. When we eschew ego, hatred and accept all without judgement we realize bliss. I enjoy the company of all with different beliefs as they are so enriching; even atheists who just do what is right without expecting any returns - siva

Thank you Karim. Hatred is due to many reasons, mostly through jealousy that others have an easier ride but those who overcome such petty feelings enjoy bliss. My simple take is - we do our karma, let others do theirs. In politics, only fooling the general public counts but it is not for you and me as it requires thick skin even to get in, forget becoming leaders! siva

Excellent, as usual.
Love and hate are two ends of a spectrum and we all fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, with shades of both in us. If each one of us chose to move a little more towards love, the world would be full of it and we might be able to kick hate out.

Thanks Vartika for such sentiments. We know what is required to make this world a better place but we go the opposite direction. Sadly, we refuse to coexist taking life as a zero sum game - others' success is our loss. Nature has been so kind to us and shows the way how to adjust and persevere. For me, hate is kept away as that goes only to punish myself - siva

Wonderful insights, dear friend Siva.

In duality all the feelings, emotions and traits crop up and when one realizes the non-dual existence of the One "I" permeating the whole Creation, only Love and Peace becomes that "I". But how to realize that One "I" is the big question and the ways and means are widely varied and need great patience and understanding.

Thanks Rathna for your in depth comment. We need to accept the diversity as life and nature are steeped in them. The Creator wants it that way to enrich our journey here, to overcome negative forces to strengthen us for our onward journey. When we realize that life is full of uncertainties as we are part and parcel of the creative and destructive process, then patience and understanding will rule our moments - siva

Great praise indeed, dear Rathna, thank you. When I get comments that I have touched few positively, I too get recharged. I live a life without borders - I see all as one and the same without artificial borders and that include by country, beliefs, gender, age etc. All are entitled to share what is so lovingly nurtured by a loving Creator and Mother Earth. When we look down on others, we negate the whole creative process - siva

I often hear: "Success from God, failure from human. Goodness from God, evil from human."
It is an ethics of us as human to respect God, essentially all of from same source, one source, God. But I am still determining this thought now, true or not?

I feel dear Komarudin, our soul is eternal. We are on a stopover here to learn and move on. Where we go depends on how we live our life here. We can find love or lose ourselves in hate. God has given everything to make our lives worthwhile - then it is up to us what we do. He has given us full freedom. So let us help each other as we are from the same source. Our beliefs and culture may differ. As far as I know, no one has seen God. And that makes some to feel our life is over completely after we breathe our last here. For me, all are His creations - so accept everything and make our lives better. Then we will also align with God. You may believe in different Gods but our blood is same forever! We just follow different paths but reach the same destination in the end. That is what is meant to be by the Creator Himself - siva
