It is a new morning. Max slept later than what he wanted to but he's still gaining his strength. The temperatures are still very cold and he has no plans to go outside until he feels stronger. A few more days should do it. Miss Renee always makes a delicious country breakfast and he is going downstairs to help her.

Breakfast at Miss Renee's

Miss Renee gets up early in the morning. The first thing she does is put wood on the fire to warm up the house. Then she starts the coffee and gets out the supplies for breakfast. This morning the menu will have pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and maple syrup. The army supply truck brought enough supplies to fill the pantry. It would be a good breakfast. The warm maple syrup would be wonderful.

A plan of action

Max was going to help Miss Renee cook and clean up the breakfast dishes. Then his plan was going to be to go into the den with his map and come up with a plan. His was going to take a cup of hot coffee with him and stay there until he had a plan. There was one road that he knew like the back of his hand. He thought that was probably his best route. He loved sitting in the den. There was a bright light in there and a big old arm chair that he liked to sit in. It had definitely seen better days but that was part of it's appeal.

Mid morning coffee

Max was sitting in the den studying his map when Miss Renee came in with a fresh cup of coffee. She made it just the way he liked it. His cup had just a little cream and sugar in it. Miss Renee sat down on the love seat to drink her coffee. She had an old magazine to look at. It was nice just the two of them having a peaceful moment. The last few months had been hard on everyone. The one thing about it was that they'd made it through the hardest of times. Max could hear the wind blowing outside but inside it was warm and inviting. Miss Renee leaned over and patted Max's hand and smiled. She was such a loving person and very dear to his heart.

Late morning dream

Max was studying his map and his eyes started closing and he nodded off to sleep. The map slid onto the floor and the next thing Max knew he was walking up the front steps to Danielle's house. She was standing in the doorway. He walked over to her and swept her off her feet. He took her in his arms and kissed her longer, deeper and more loving than ever before. Her scent was like heaven on a sunny day. He had missed her for a very long time. When he finally let go he looked around the room. It was the same as always. It was a large room with an old wood burner sitting in the corner. He could see the fire and feel the warmth. It felt like home. Danielle took his hand and they walked toward the back of the house.

Awakening

Max felt totally content in his dream. Danielle was all he ever wanted. She was everything to him. Suddenly Max heard a loud noise and he jerked his head. When he opened his eyes he was back in the den sitting on the big old chair. He sat up and noticed that his map had fallen on the floor. He leaned over to pick it up. He heard voices in the hallway but he didn't know who it was. He looked out the window at the snow. It was still coming down. He was amazed at how good he felt after falling asleep. It was funny but he thought the air was filled with the scent of Danielle. That was a crazy thought. Where did that come from? Max was a rational man and he knew that there was no possible way the air could smell the way it did.

A Special Visitor

Max heard a knock on the door and then he saw the door knob turn slowly. A lady peeked her head around the door. It was Danielle looking as beautiful as always. She had a big smile on her face but also a concerned look. She was like an angel coming straight from heaven. She walked over to the big old chair and kneeled down beside Max. He smiled at her and he could see a tear falling down the side of her face. He leaned over and kissed her. After the kiss they just looked at each other. Danielle had been in a hurry to find out why Max didn't respond to her note. She had to wait for a ride in with the army supply truck. The roads were barely passable. Now she knew. He was much thinner than the last time she'd seen him and Miss Renee had said he'd been very sick. She ran her hand through his hair and could tell he still had a slight temperature. She took note that his hair was much longer than the last time they'd been together. He had lost about 20 pounds off his muscular frame. She also saw the look of love in his eyes. Her heart melted for the man she loved.

Shamarie, it just dawned on me that I should have titled this story "Lessons to be Learned" because there are so many lessons in this story. The number 1 lesson to me is helping each other. Blessings to you this week.

I remember watching my mother putting one of my father's shirts to her face and drawing into her mind the scent of my father, after he had passed. She did not know I was there, so I tip-toed out of the room. Max smelling his lover in the room brought this soft little moment back me...Thank you.
