Danielle arrived at the rooming house on the army supply truck. Max and Danielle have shared an intimate kiss. She can see that the war has taken a toll on Max. His face is a lot thinner and it's evident that he's lost a lot of weight. His hair is long even though he always kept it short. She finds Max recovering from the flu. The one thing that is more evident than anything else is that he still loves her. She can see it in his eyes and feel it in the way he touches her with a gentle caress.

A very happy couple

Max and Danielle talked for hours. When they weren't talking they were holding hands. Max wanted to know just exactly how she'd traveled from the homestead to the rooming house. It was at least 30 miles and most of the roads were not passable. Of course he also knew if Danielle made up her mind to do something she would find a way. She was a very determined lady and also the love of his life.

Danielle's explanation

Danielle explained that after coming into town and leaving the note for him she waited for what seemed an eternity. She was starting to get really worried. Danielle knew she couldn't make it to town with these weather conditions. The roads would not be passable for her. The last time there was a delivery on the farm Danielle asked the guys to inquire about Max at the food pantry. If something happened someone would let her know. She was just about sick with worry. Days went by before a new delivery was made. When the guys dropped off the food they told her Max was sick. On that note she asked if on their way back they would stop and pick her up. She needed a ride into town. They agreed to pick her up and take her into town.

Anticipation

When the army guys came back through they stopped at the farm and picked up Danielle. They brought her right to the rooming house. Danielle was so excited to see Max. She was also afraid of what she was going to find. When she knocked on the door Miss Renee answered. She remembered Danielle from when she'd dropped off the note. When Danielle opened the door to the den and saw Max she was the happiest person on earth. From the look on Max's face he was pretty happy to see her too. The feeling was like a rainbow in the sky after a day of rain.

The old farm house

They talked until dinner. The supply truck was going to come back for Danielle in a couple days. There was only enough room in the truck for one extra person. That meant she was going back to the farm alone. Danielle could only stay away for a couple days because she had so much to do at home. There were the animals to feed and the fire to be tended too. She still had the big old wood burner in the living room and the old stove in the kitchen. The farm had generators running around the clock. If anything went wrong Danielle needed to be there.

Dining together

Max and Danielle had dinner together by candle light. It was actually Miss Renee's idea. She thought it would be romantic for the couple to eat together in the den. She made up a table for just the two of them. She set the table with her good china and shared a bottle of wine that she'd brought up from the cellar. She was so happy for the couple. To be young and in love was wonderful. When she brought their dinner in she could see Max's face and his color was coming back. He'd been so pale while being sick. It was nice to see that he was getting stronger every day. Of course she knew that Danielle had made a difference.
