Max had shown Bobby's picture to the delivery guys at the food pantry. They knew exactly who Bobby was. Did Max dare to hope for a lead on where Bobby's parents were?

Finally some answers

Sam the younger delivery guy told Max that Bobby's name was Bobby Jones. His father just happened to be a good friend of Sam's. They had been in boot camp together. They actually grew up together in the same town. They went to the same schools and enlisted at the same time. Max was delighted to hear this news. It still didn't answer why Bobby had beeen in the park by himself. Max had every intention of finding out what was going on. The mystery of Bobby was beginnning to unravel one piece at a time, just like a puzzle.

A special assignment

Sam went on to tell Max that Bobby's dad Robert was away on a special mission. It was top secret and he was going to be gone for six weeks. That was all he knew. Max asked if he knew Bobby's mother? The answer was yes he did. Robert had married her when he was home on leave. She was Mrs. Robert Jones. Her first name was Melissa. The couple and their son lived on the base together. That was all that Sam knew about Bobby and his family.

Where's Bobby's mother

The two delivery guys had several more stops to make before they got back to the base. Max asked Sam to please inquire about Bobby's mother. If she lived on the base what was Bobby doing in the park? It wasn't far from the food pantry but why would they be going there? Max knew for a fact there was food on the base. It just didn't add up to him. The only thing he could do was wait till he heard back from the guys at the base. Max's hope was that someone would know where Melissa was and why she wasn't with Bobby. In the mean time Bobby was safe. That was a blessing in itself. He had a safe place to stay with a very kind woman to take care of him. Miss Renee would never let anything happen to that little boy.

A gift for Bobby

Max was getting ready to leave the food pantry. The breakfast rush was over and he was going to go back to the rooming house. He started to wave goodbye to Miss Jane when she asked him to hold on a minute. He waited a few minutes and she came out of the kitchen holding a stuffed animal. She asked Max to give it to Bobby. She'd had it in her spare room since her kids were little. Max had to smile at the big grin on Miss Jane's face. She loved doing nice things for people. It was her nature to be kind. Max thanked her and told her that he knew Bobby would love it. He walked all the way home with the bear under his coat. He didn't want snow to get on Bobby's stuffed bear.

People's generosity

When the word got out that Miss Renee was taking care of a little boy the neighbors started sending items over for Bobby. He got pajamas and pants, shirts, socks and even a pair of boots. The boots were a little big but that was okay. Miss Renee would make them work. When Max walked through the front door he saw Bobby coloring in a coloring book. It looked like he had a new box of crayons. The dining room table was covered in clothes and toys for Bobby. Miss Renee was sorting through the clothes. She had jeans in one pile and shirts and pajamas in different piles. The neighbors had been very generous. In times of need people always came together to help. Max walked over to Bobby and gave him the polar bear from Miss Jane. He loved it. He was a very polite little boy. He said thank you.

After dinner conversation

After dinner Max sat in the den with Miss Renee. They discussed Bobby. They had more information than they'd had last night. They knew his dad was away on a secret mission. He'd left about a week ago which left 5 weeks before he returned. Max told Miss Renee that the delivery guys were going to check around and try to locate Melissa Jones. Miss Renee told Max she had a bad feeling about Bobby's mom. What if she was hurt or worse? She just didn't want to think about it. It was time to put Bobby in bed for the night. She said prayers with him just like the night before. He was asleep before she left the room. Miss Renee was very tired and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. When Max came up to his room he looked in on Bobby. He'd kicked the blanket off the bed and it was laying on the floor. Max walked over and picked up the blanket and covered Bobby back up. Then he went to his room. He suddenly felt very tired. Tomorrow hopefully they would find out what happened to Bobby's mom.
