Madness Within

I've been writing poetry for thirty years. My poems tend to run to the darker emotions; however, I feel these are sometimes the emotions that are most relatable to others. I have been bipolar for fifteen years, and my poetry is an outlet in which I can cathartically express my depression. It has inspired my friends and loved ones for years, I hope it can touch some of those who read it, as well.

Madness Within

Stumbling around in grief and despair, violently shaking, gasping for air
Can everyone tell? If so...do they care? You wish you weren't here-they're starting to stare
Telling yourself you'd be better dead, why in the hell are you so scared?
You tongue is in knots, your voice is gone, and even your vision's impaired

The lights get brighter, it's too intense! Why do they scare you? It makes no sense.
The air you're trying to breathe is so dense. Your mind whirls faster, there is no defense
You don't know why, but the fear is immense; nd those all around seem to stare in suspense.

But not this time! I won't let them win. I'll not let them see this madness within.

Surrounded by fake friends who just bring you down, as you quietly let these friends kick you around
You can save no one else..at least none that you've found. It feels as you've trespassed on sacred ground.
And though the enemy is invisible, its strength is so profound.

This madness within makes me feel full of sin. And when it comes to the fight, I'm not sure I'll win.
Do I even have it in me to go through this again? Though they say that I'll get better, they never do say when.
What about the medicine? Just another ruse. A temporary fix that will leave me further confused.
