The Lipan Apache were a Tribe once thought to be extinct, descendants of that Tribe now step forward to reclaim what once was theirs...their heritage.

Many Moons, Many Suns: The Lipan Apache Story

Many turns of the earth,
Many moons, many suns
Stories told
Doors kept closed
Guarding word by word
What and who we truly were
Forced to vanish as Lipan
From sight, from books
Our lives denied
Visibly invisible
We’ve then become

Many turns of the earth
Many moons, many suns
Ancestor wait
Stars go by
No history left
No mention made
Of our Great Chiefs
Of wandering bands
No mention made
Of those who died
In Mexico’s quest
Their freedom fight
No mention made
At the Alamo
Of the brave Lipan
Their blood to flow
Vanished from sight
Or so they thought
We lay in waiting
We’ve never gone!

Many turns of the earth
Many moons, many suns
We walked among them
Unrecognized
Made to live another’s life
Their ways, their dress
Our sacrifice
Visibly invisible
We lived their life

Many turns of the earth
Many moons, many suns
The Spirits awaken
The embers ignite
The beating drums call
Ancestors rise!
Closed doors open
Forward we come!
With heads held high
"We are LIPAN!"
Forward we come
One by one
We’ve found each other
Our ancestor’s in us
But our quest is not over
There are others to find

Many turns of the earth
Many moons, many suns
"We are the Nde!"
Now recognized
March 18, 2009
And living among them
Is how we survived,
Many turns of the earth
Many moons, many suns.

Raquel, A wonderful piece, I am delighted to hear your people are gathering together again, I am Irish and when we were gripped in the hands of famine, Native Americans herd
of our plight and made a collection among themselves from what little they had, And sent a donation to Ireland to help us.I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thanks on behalf of my people to yours for your help. Regards Mikey. Ps I do not think many of my people know this though.
