Danielle is sick with worry. Max has been missing for two day. The newscasters are referring to the flood as the hundred year flood. Danielle's grandfather used to speak of a flood like this when he was a little boy.

A hundred year flood

Danielle is existing on very little sleep and strong black coffee. She is sick with worry. Since Jake got separated from Max there has been no word. The search party had no luck and Danielle has been at the farmhouse waiting for news. It does not look good but Danielle cannot give up hope. The valley is flooded and a lot of people are homeless. Danielle wants to help but she's afraid to leave the farmhouse. If Max came back and she wasn't home he'd go back out in the storm.

Silent Vigil

The farmers from the area have stopped by to console Danielle. They all liked Max and were very concerned for his safety. Danielle had been praying and hoping for the best. She couldn't lose Max now. They'd come to far together. His life could not possibly be over. They had plans for the future. He would find a way home no matter what happened.

Trouble in the valley

People were in trouble all over the valley. Danielle didn't know what to do. The volunteer organizations were gathering supplies for the homeless. The churches were uniting to give people shelter. The farmhouse was on a hill which was a blessing for Danielle. She was not in danger but her heart was broken. She decided to get some boxes and start packing up supplies for those in need. She would be doing a good thing while trying to keep her mind off of Max. There were some old blankets in the attic that she was going to send to the church. She'd ask one of the farmhands to deliver the boxes.

The Rain

Danielle had all the boxes packed to give to the people in need. A couple of the farmhands came to take them to the church. There was some good news because the rain was slowing. It was still coming down but not like it had been. There was a glimmer of hope for the valley. Danielle knew it would take quite some time to get the valley back to normal but first the water had to go down. This was a very dangerous situation.

Late afternoon news

As soon as the rain let up Danielle put on her coat and went outside. Fortunately she'd put on her boots because the ground was soggy and every step she made was an effort. The sun was starting to show through the clouds. It looked like the rains were coming to an end. Danielle knew nothing about the weather and she didn't know why this had happened to the valley but it was going to take a lot of work to clean up the mess. Danielle was heading toward the barn when she saw Jake. He had just come back from the river and had news of Max . He looked tired and weary and Danielle was afraid of what he would say. Her heart felt like it was in her throat.

The flood that happened to the community in this story is sickening. It causes distress and worries to the people living therein. Personally I have encountered so much disastrous flooding in our place. I presume we knew it all that flooding is caused by man himself.

n.c.radomes, thank you for your heartfelt comment. It was very hard to write this. I guess I would say it was intense but it was part of the story line. We have had flooding around where we live. I'm very afraid of water myself. It can be so dangerous. I belong to an emergency response team and we do search and rescue. We have a canal down in the valley here that floods anytime there are heavy rains. It's very scary. They houses flooded so much that they moved them to higher ground.
