Max and Jake volunteered to help during the flood. They took Jake's small boat. When the road collapsed the water capsized the boat. They got separated and Jake couldn't find Max. Danielle has been sick with worry.

Jake brings news

When Danielle saw Jake's face she knew it was bad news. He had just got back to the farm. He looked tired and very weary. Danielle tried to remain calm but she knew the news was not going to be good. Jake filled in some of the blanks of what had happened the day of the flood. When the road had collapsed and the boat capsized Jake and Max had been separated. Jake ended up on one side of the water and Max on the other side. Jake had climbed up the bank and got to the top of the hill. He looked for Max but couldn't see him anywhere. Max had made it to the other side and crawled to safety but then he'd passed out. There was so much debris that Max was hidden from sight. The next day some volunteers were walking along near the water and saw Max. They carried him to their jeep and took him to a red cross tent. Max was then taken to a hospital in the next town. The local hospital was so full that they had no choice but to transfer him to a different hospital. He was in a coma.

Danielle reacts to the news

The minute that Danielle could understand everything that Jake was saying she knew she had to get to Max. She asked Jake if he would drive. Jake already had the truck keys in his hand and was ready to go. Danielle grabbed her coat and out the door she went. It was a thirty mile drive to the hospital. It seemed like an eternity to Danielle. Jake was quiet during the drive and Danielle spent most of the time crying. She simply could not believe that Max was going to leave her. She was hoping beyond all hope that when he heard her voice he would wake up.

The aftermath of the storm

Danielle was looking around at all the devastation as they drove toward the hospital. They were fortunate that they were on high ground but the people in the valley were totally flooded out. There were houses that were completely underwater. Jake drove passed a red cross tent and Danielle gave a silent prayer of thanks for all the people that volunteer their time in a disaster. They are heaven sent.

Arriving at the medical clinic

Jake and Danielle made the thirty mile drive in record time. They pulled up in front of the hospital and got out. Danielle was the first one through the door. They stopped at the front desk and gave the nurses aide Max's name. He was on the 4th floor in intensive care. When Danielle heard where Max was she felt like her heart skipped a beat or maybe two for that matter. Jake took Danielle's arm and walked with her to the elevator. He looked over at her and she was very pale. Jake was sick over Max and very worried about Danielle. This was a bad situation if ever there was one.

Seeing Max

When Danielle entered intensive care she was surprised to see all the medical equipment hooked up to Max. She didn't know what to do. This was like a nightmare that she couldn't wake up from. The intensive care nurse told Danielle that the doctor would be in to talk to her shortly. Danielle sat down in the chair next to Max's bed. She held onto his hand the best she could without disturbing any of the equipment. He was pale but he looked like he was sleeping. She kissed his hand and told him how much she loved him. She only sat there for a few minutes before the doctor came into the room.

I'm waiting with bated breath to know what the doctor said. Medical ones are the worst kind of mysteries.

I'm back! Intensive care? Yikes! All of that medical equipment is a scary sight. I hope that the "hunky" Max makes it through.
