This is a short extract of the novel I am writing at the moment. Wanted to see what you all think about it? Comments would be appreciated.

Meet Me By The Daffodils.

The bright yellow follows are blowing playfully in the sweeping spring wind. It is another beautiful day; with a perfect blue sky overlooking the daffodils giggling in the sun. The meadow looks exactly the same as it always does; every daffodil standing to attention, the sun beams bouncing off their petals giving a vibrant glow amongst the entire landscape. It is breath-taking to see.

I slowly take steps through the crowds of flowers, running my hand ever so delicately over the tops, letting them brush by me. I carefully walk through with my little feet, trying not to hurt any of the dancing flowers as I go. The red tartan blanket is sitting in the distance again, outstretched over the land like an invader to this beautiful scene.

Standing in the distance I see a familiar figure come towards the central zone that is the blanket. I feel my body warm as I glide towards it. “Today will be a perfect day.” I hear inside my head.

My name is being called again, like it was before, as I follow the sun kissed field to my destination. The red tartan blanket is close now, though I do not try to walk faster than I am; I worry it may disappear if I do so.

She stands there waiting for me, her platinum blonde hair shining in the sunlight. I take a breath as I know, now that I am closer, that she is not going to be taken from me. Reaching out my hand to touch her, she smiles and pulls me into an embrace. I am so small beside her; she is like a giant to me.

Letting go of my small innocent body, she kneels down onto the red tartan blanket. She is my height now; I can look right into her eyes now. The electric blue is rimmed with a soft grey shade. It shows her sad side; but I do not look at her as sad. She is always happy to me.

She gestures for me to sit down in front of her. I do so as she crosses her legs underneath her. She starts to brush my hair- where she got the brush I do not know- and begins to hum to herself. The view around us is still bright and gleaming from the sunshine above. The daffodils look like they are now swaying along to the tune being hummed.

I feel tranquil in this setting. I feel happy and light. Not a care in the world. Brushing my hair to one side, like she did before, her soft voice whispers through the wind as she recites a well-known poem to me:

“I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”
(Wordsworth)

I am lost in awe of this wonderful woman. She glances down at me and beams with pride and joy. We sit in silence overlooking the bright yellow sea before us; knowing soon once again this time together will be over.
