George is sitting at his desk remembering his sister, who took her own life.

Goodbye Jill

George sat in his office and took the picture of his sister out of his desk. He had put it there the day after the funeral and now felt bad about hiding her photo. “I’m sorry Jill,” he said as tears formed in his eyes. His work was piling up since his mind was on vacation most of the time. He thought of how Jill and he ran together in the grassy fields behind their childhood home in Michigan. Their home was a mile outside a small suburb. They were less than a year apart and did a lot together until he met a girl; even then Jill was a great friend to him. He remembered the advice his sister gave him about women. He chuckled to himself when he thought of how he followed her directions and won his girlfriend, now wife’s heart. George readjusted the picture and let his mind travel to his boy hood dreams. They were in the same grade and shared much of the same interests. When George became the President of the University, Jill was quick to transfer schools. The President was thrilled to have his kid sister close to him. She was at their home every Sunday afternoon and many nights. Tina and Jill were best friends. Sometimes when George had to work late Tina and Jill would be found together in the mall. He missed Jill so very much. He slammed his head into his desk something he did often since since he discovered Jill's body hanging from the rope. That image woke him up many nights.

Randy, I read this and was very sad. I had to go back and look to see it was under general fiction. Great writing!
