Molly, Milly and the family are going back to the house after a busy morning on the beach. Dad was tired from playing in the volleyball tournament and mom and the kids had spent the morning swimming and building sandcastles. Molly had been a spectator at the Dad's game and Milly had stayed under her umbrella to keep from getting sunburned.

A quiet afternoon

It was almost noon and the temperature was going up fast. If Molly had to guess she'd say it was about 100 degrees. That was hot for a dog from Jersey. The sun's rays seemed to make it feel so much hotter on the sandy beach. Molly had watched Dad's volleyball tournament and even though his team lost he did a good job. He was the best server on the team. Mom and the kids spent the day swimming and building sandcastles. Milly spent her time under an umbrella on the beach. She didn't want to get sunburned and besides that she had taken a vow not to go in the water. They were all walking back toward their rental for an afternoon of rest. The heat was taking a lot out of them and it looked like mom was getting sunburned.

The Rescue squad

Mom made a light lunch and they all went to take naps. Milly was laying in mom's bed and Molly was on the couch. Dad fell asleep in the recliner and the kids were sleeping in their rooms. Milly woke up to sirens blasting. She wondered what in the world was going on? They were on vacation. This was supposed to be a peaceful and relaxing time. She moved the window blind out of her way and looked out on the beach. There were police and rescue squads everywhere. This was not good, something was terribly wrong. Molly was in the front window viewing the same scene. She didn't have a clue what was happening.

The investigation on the beach

Dad sat up in his chair and looked out the big window. If Molly would describe Dad's expression she'd say it was a look of surprise. It was summer and everybody was supposed to be having a good time. Molly had an awful thought, what if it was a shark attack. If it was, then they might as well ship Milly home to grandma right now. She'd never go on the beach again. Actually if it was a shark attack Molly would just as soon go home with Milly. She wouldn't stand a chance in the water next to a shark.

The discovery on the beach

Dad slipped on his sandals and told everybody to stay put till he could find out what was going on. Dad walked out on the beach and Molly followed. Milly had no intention of going out in the heat. She didn't care what was happening. The sun was too hot for her and she needed to be in a controlled environment. There was a large group of people over by the volleyball nets. Dad walked over to one of the policemen and asked what was going on. He said they'd found a dead body on the beach. Some swimmers had stumbled across the body and called for help. Molly stood quietly listening to the officer talk. Then Dad did something Molly seriously could not believe. He proceeded to tell the officer he was a private investigator. What was the matter with him? Was he crazy? They were on summer vacation. Molly saw the coroner's wagon pull up. On that note she walked back to the house. Dad was on his own. She had no idea what he was thinking at this point.

A late afternoon walk

Dad was gone for a long time. By the time he walked in the door it was time for dinner. Mom wanted to walk up to the boardwalk and get some hotdogs and fries from a little shop on the corner. Dad was too tired to go anywhere and the kids were playing video games. Milly was refusing to leave the house so that left Molly to walk with Mom. Molly didn't care because she liked to walk. The boardwalk looked interesting and she liked to people watch. Everywhere they went there was talk of the murder. It gave Molly a sick feeling because she just knew it was going to be a nightmare for her. Mom bought the hotdogs and they headed for home. The food smelled so good that Molly couldn't wait to eat.

Shamarie, thanks for the awesome comment. It would be nice to be on vacation. I wouldn't want to be investigating a murder though. Smiles to you today and always.

Dad cannot shake off his role as Private Investigator even while on a vacation - great dedication indeed! Soon he will be in the thick of action but he depends too much on Molly and even Milly too.

You keep us on tenterhooks, thanks Nancy - siva

I fell from the stairs and badly injured myself. I didn't use the internet for nearly a fortnight as i was in complete bed rest.

Today, I logged in to Wikinut. Missed the previous parts of your story. I'll go through them now.
