Molly, Milly and the family are off to the beach. They would have a few weeks of fun in the sun. Life was good and they were leaving the city behind. The bad guys would have to wait for their return.

Carolina beach

Everyone was looking forward to this vacation. After Dad's last case they all needed to get away. Dad's arm was healing nicely from the gunshot wound and there had been a big reward. Dad decided to treat the family to some time away from their everyday life. Milly felt like she needed it more than anyone. She had been involved in two cases that were straight from hell. She needed some rest and relaxation. They were taking the three children but Milly would find some alone time. She'd packed a few of her favorite cat books and was planning to sit by the beach and read. She did not foresee any trouble while on vacation. She even brought her reading glasses to help with the glare of the sun. Molly on the other hand liked playing with the children so she was glad they were coming along. They could play ball on the beach and swim in the water. It would be bliss. At least that was what everyone was led to believe.

Arriving in Carolina Beach

On the way to the Bed and Breakfast where they were going to spend the next two weeks they went by the boardwalk. Molly wanted to get out and walk on the boardwalk and see the stores along the way. A hotdog sounded good right about now. They'd been in the car for what seemed like an eternity. Molly wanted to stretch her legs. She also needed to get away from the kids. They'd been fighting for the last half hour. It would be nice to reach their final destination. Milly could see the ocean from the side window. There was definitely a lot of water and Milly had no intention of going near it. She would get an umbrella and read in the shade. She had her bag sitting right beside her and it had the newest fashion cat magazine sitting right on top.

Arriving at their beachfront rental

When they pulled up in front of the Bed and Breakfast Molly couldn't believe how big it was. The brochure said there was accommodations for eight families. Molly didn't see anyone but maybe everyone was enjoying the beach. When Milly jumped out of the car and walked around to the other side she couldn't help but notice that the water came right up to the house. The house had stilts but that still seemed a little unnerving to her. The side entrance was the best way to enter the house. That's the door Dad went in. Mom got everybody together and they all walked into the Bed and Breakfast together.

Their home away from home

Molly was very impressed with their rooms. They were much larger than what she thought they would be. There were three big bedrooms and the sitting room was facing the ocean. The house had central air so they didn't have to worry on the really hot days. Mom and Dad got the front bedroom and the kids got the two back bedrooms. Molly and Milly decided they would sleep in the children's rooms. They were always allowed to sleep on the beds at home so they saw no reason to change their ways while on vacation. There was a small kitchen and a dinette area where they could have dinner if they didn't want to go out. Milly heard mom say she was going to have to go to the grocery store once they got settled in for the evening. There was satellite so that they would get to see their favorite programs. Dad had his computer up and running within a few minutes. He always liked to have his computer close by. Molly and Milly were both pleased with the living arrangements. It wasn't home but it sure beat the city.

The storm

Mom went to the store and made it back just before a storm came in. Milly didn't like the storm one bit. She looked out at the ocean and big waves were crashing down on the beach. Who's idea was this trip anyway. From where Milly was standing home sounded pretty good right about now. She went and curled up with her blanket on the sofa in the sitting room. The kids were watching cartoons and Dad was on his computer. Mom was in the kitchen and Molly was asleep on the recliner. Milly just started to doze off when her blanket was pulled right off of her. She thought it was one of the kids but when she opened her eyes the kids were on the other side of the room. That was odd. Maybe it had just slipped off the couch.

Never mind the waves, blankets now! Do we get some real vacation or not? I guess, I am being childish about this but...okay. Let us see.

Carolina beaches are magnificent for vacations, but watch out during hurricane season. Not the place to be when one of those hits.

And what's up with the blanket slipping off? Uh oh.
