Dad and Molly are in the middle of a murder investigation and Dad is keeping some clues to himself. Molly's not one bit happy about this turn of events. She's decided she needs to pay closer attention to Dad's notes. They need to be on the same page and share all vital information. That's what partners do.

Stormy weather

It's been raining for days. The backyard was starting to look like a muddy mess. The lightning was the scariest part of all. Milly has been under the bed all night. She frightens very easy because she is a gentle soul. Molly doesn't like lightning but she's learned to tolerate it. Mom says stay away from the windows so that's what she does. Dad's been keeping his notes hidden in his office and the door is shut. Molly needs to find a way to get into the office and go through Dad's notes. There might be something important that she needs to know.

Mom's making breakfast

Mom was up early. She was making breakfast and straightening up the house. When Dad was home he left everything in chaos. Molly was sitting in the corner by her food bowl. There'd been a little food left over from last night and she'd just finished it. It was really good. Mom had poured homemade chicken gravy over the top and Molly loved it. Molly watched mom go over to Dad's briefcase and pick it up and carry it to Dad's office. Molly heard the door open but she didn't hear it close. That meant mom didn't close the door. Mom came back into the kitchen and Molly nonchalantly made her way to Dad's office. Just as she'd expected there were papers everywhere. She wasn't sure where to begin so she climbed up on Dad's chair and started looking at the pile of papers. She had to be quick because Dad would be getting up soon.

Discovery

Molly was trying to be careful with Dad's papers. She didn't want him to know she was snooping. He would get really mad and she would be grounded for a really long time. Molly started with the pile of papers right in front of her. She didn't find anything of interest in those papers. Her next step was to look at the papers to her right. It was hard to believe how many papers Dad had on this desk. This could take a long time. She slowly and carefully moved one paper at a time. When she got near the end of this stack of papers she found what she was looking for. It was the layout of the apartment building where the murder took place. Molly studied it for a few minutes and couldn't believe what she was seeing. There seemed to be a secret passage from the basement to the apartment where the murder took place. Someone had to have inside information to even know that passageway was there. Molly started thinking maybe there was a handyman that would have that kind of knowledge. Then again maybe the person that drew up the plans for the building hid something in that apartment. This was indeed one of the best clues so far. Molly couldn't believe that Dad didn't share this information with her. She just shook her head. She put everything back the way she found it and jumped off the office chair. She was hungry and she was sure breakfast was ready.

Milly's reaction

Molly liked to run things by Milly. She was a good listener. She never said much but sometime Molly wanted to get her opinion. After breakfast they went in the back room and Molly explained the situation to Milly. Just as Molly expected Milly couldn't believe Dad would withhold such vital information from Molly. Milly didn't want to say too much or the next thing she knew she'd be forced to leave the house and go out on surveillance and that was the last thing on the planet she wanted to do. Sometimes Molly just needed to vent.

Molly should have chewed dad's papers to get to the core of the matter! Molly is a team player and dad should learn from her than take up everything upon himself. Keen to know how Molly's instincts help dad, but she knows how to keep herself in the background, thanks Nancy - siva
