Molly, Dad and Milly are doing surveillance at the apartment building where the murder took place. Molly's got her night vision goggles and Milly wants to go home. They are hoping the murderer will show back up at the apartment. At least Dad and Molly are hoping for that. Milly is hiding in the closet.

Night Surveillance

Milly is very unhappy. She doesn't want to do surveillance. It's so boring. You just stay in one spot and wait. It could take hours and sometimes the murderer never shows up. Molly is under the bed and Dad is behind the door with his camera. Milly is in the closet. The closet still had a lot of the victim's clothes and blankets in it. At first Milly felt a little funny about making a bed on the deceased person's blankets and clothing. That thought passed when it seemed like they were going to be pulling an all night gig. Molly bunched some of the clothes together and made herself a nice comfy bed. She needed her rest. This private investigator work was for the birds. It was certainly not for a poor defenseless kitten. She tried to tell Molly that but she wouldn't listen. Now they were all stuck in this apartment till morning.

Hour by hour

A couple times Molly could feel herself dosing off. What kind of detective was she anyway. It was absolutely a necessity that she stay awake. Things could start to get really interesting any minute. She hadn't heard a noise from Milly in about an hour. She was probably asleep and that was so wrong. That cat could sleep anywhere.

Venturing out of the apartment

At around 3:00 a.m Dad decided to go out in the hallway. It was dark and he wanted to explore the apartment building. Molly could not imagine why Dad was leaving the apartment. He never shared anything with her anymore so she could only guess what his thoughts were. After he left the apartment Molly crawled out from under the bed and went to the closet to wake up Milly. She touched Milly on the paw and that kitten must have jumped a foot. Milly didn't like to be surprised when she was sleeping and Molly knew that. Milly actually hissed at Molly and Molly didn't appreciate that one bit. Milly's patience was running very thin. Molly informed her that Dad had left the apartment. Milly couldn't believe it. Now they were in danger from the murderer and Dad was gone. Great! This night just kept getting better. What if the murderer came up the secret passageway and came in the apartment while Dad was gone? Thank goodness Molly had brought her mace. At least that was some kind of protection but then Molly informed her that the mace wasn't working. Milly just glared at Molly. All she could think was that they were sitting ducks.

A loud noise

By 4:00 a.m. Dad wasn't back from exploring the building. Milly was getting worried. She knew there was a possibility that Dad was in trouble again. Molly was trying to get her can of mace to work but she seemed to be having a lot of trouble. It was very quiet in the apartment except for the noise Molly was making tapping on the mace can. Milly figured they should just give up and throw the mace away. Suddenly there was a loud crash by the secret passageway. Milly's heart leaped up into her throat and Molly dropped the can. The panel to the passageway was laying in the hallway. Milly was praying it was Dad but it could be the murderer. She sure hoped Molly had a plan.

The Lobby

Milly didn't care who had just come through the passageway. She made up her mind right then and there that if she got a chance she was running out of the apartment through the secret passageway and going straight to the lobby. She could really run if she set her mind to it and she was going for help. Her only concern was that hopefully someone would be in the lobby. Preferably that nice lady that always sat behind the desk. She'd ask her to call for backup. Molly peaked around the corner and the light was on in the bathroom. Now the question was who exactly was in the bathroom.

Dad could be wrestling with the murderer in a life and death struggle, good that he had back up in the form of Molly and Milly. Milly can distract the murderer so that dad can deliver the coup de grâce. Exciting end to this part, thanks Nancy - siva
