Milly has just discovered Dad in the storage room. He's been shot and Molly has been knocked out. Milly ran to the lobby for help but it was empty and she is now going around setting off every fire alarm she can find. She knows that will bring help.

An emergency plan

This investigation had turned deadly. Dad was in need of help and Molly was out cold. It was all up to Milly to save the day. Setting off the fire alarms was not an easy feat for a little kitten but one by one she managed to do it. In her heart she knows she's doing the right thing but she might go up the river for this one. She didn't want to go to jail but if she managed to save Dad and Molly it would be worth it. There were laws against setting off fire alarms and she knew that. This just happened to be a time when it was a necessity. Milly figured the fire station got the report and the firemen would be here any minute. They would bring the police and the day would be saved.

The loud sirens

After ringing the last fire alarm Milly could hear fire engines pulling up in front of the apartment complex. Their sirens were blasting and it was a beautiful sound. Help had arrived. Thank goodness for the New York City fire fighters. They would help Dad and Molly. Milly's heart was beating very fast and if it didn't slow down the firemen would have to help her too.

The Police Arrive

The police arrived at almost the same time the firefighters came on the scene. It was a tremendous relief to Milly to see them as they came through the lobby doors. The storage room was in the back of the building and somehow Milly had to get their attention and take them to Dad and Molly. She stood still for just a minute while she was thinking. There were big men running in every direction. There was a guy standing in the middle of the lobby giving orders. Milly liked him right away. She could tell he had a plan. A big, burly guy ran down the hall toward the storage room. Milly ran after him. She was hoping he would check the storage room.

The storage room

By this point Milly was right behind the fireman running as fast as she could. When they got to the storage room the door was open and they went right in. As he entered the room Milly heard him say something but she couldn't tell what it was. He found dad tied up in the chair just like Milly had left him. He called for back up and Milly stood to the side as men came rushing in with a stretcher. One of the firemen saw Molly in the corner and went over and picked her up. Milly thought she was going to start to cry. Molly was limp in the man's arms. He massaged her back and she started to slowly come around. Milly was never so happy in all her life. In all her six months of life she had seen more than what most cats see in a lifetime or even nine lifetimes.

Going to the hospital

Molly watched as they wheeled the stretcher out of the apartment building. The one fireman was carrying Molly and Milly was following beside him. From what Milly could tell nobody knew she was the one to set off the fire alarms, and she certainly wasn't planning on telling anyone it was her. That was a really good thing because she wouldn't have to worry about jail time. They put Dad in the ambulance along with Molly. Before they shut the doors Milly jumped in. She positioned herself in the corner so she wouldn't be in the way. Milly refused to be left behind.
