Morning Thoughts in a Hotel Room

Morning thoughts written from the tenth floor of the Bay Plaza Hotel in Wellington, New Zealand, on 19 January 2012.

A Short Escape to Wellington

With a son living in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, my husband and I often travel the two hour journey down to see him for the day. Several times a year I take a short break on my own, to keep appointments, shop and meet with friends. I've just returned from one of these breaks.
I always stay in a hotel called the Bay Plaza, an older hotel , but right in the heart of the city. In this view of the hotel, from a 1980s postcard, you can try and imagine me on the tenth floor - in this picture two floors from the top, the second window from the left.
Of course the hotel is different now, as are the surrounding streets and buildings. It even has a different name, as hotels tend to have when ownership changes. But the structure is basically the same.

Bay Plaza Hotel, Wellington, NZ - 19 January 2012

Wild wind gusts
batter the building,
a reminder this is Wellington.
Lying on my bed of
freshly laundered linen
I smile.
Below, the awakened city
Moves with purpose
While I ponder,
What time shall I
go down to breakfast?

Thanks Mark, took me a few seconds to work out why you said in your moderator notes that my pic came from the future :-) of course it should read 1980s, but I think I'll leave the above as it is!
