Strange Things In African Culture

I just joined wikinut yesterday, I am enjoy sharing and learning on this site. This site is a great platform for me to learn and share my life experiences in Africa, to the entire world.
I live in a rural part of Zambia in a place called mpika which means a cooking pot. In this article I'd like to share about the strange things in our African Culture. African culture is a very vast and complex one divided in great number of ethnic cultures. It's also a interesting one.
I would like to point out some strange things about African culture, there is a lot of strange things in African culture, but in this article I am going to write about two strange things.

Oral Culture

1. Oral culture - The continent of Africa speaks hundreds of languages, in Zambia alone we have about 73 languages a country of about 14 million people. We enjoy talking than writing that is why most of our traditions and cultural practices are oral. Most of our teachings are past on through talking than writing. I remember when i was young parents used to tell us stories at night. That is why there are few books in Africa. most African only read when they are in school. I live in a community of about 3,000 to 5,000 people but there is no single Library. I will write more about this in another article.

Dancing/Singing Culture

2. Dancing and Singing Culture - In Africa we dance and sing for every thing. We dance/sing when we are happy or sad. Dancing/singing is one of the way we express ourselves. Dancing and singing is as diverse as the African populations.Dance involves moving multiple body parts, swaying body movements and footwork. music involves a lot of music with strings, horns, and very little poly-rhythms.

Africa is so diverse, and I would really love to be able to travel there to see parts of it one day.
