It'll be another Christmas to celebrate in harmony with good food and wine as well as the traditional instruments.

My Christmas so far

When my mother was here, I used to go out in the afternoon on Christmas Eve. I bought whatever we needed for the Christmas Eve supper and then I went to call on one my aunts for a couple of hours. Then, I returned home to prepare our Christmas Eve supper for the two of us. We had a bottle of bubbly. We talked and laughed till we went to sleep.
Now my mother isn't here and since she passed away, I've had different Christmases in different parts of the country and even abroad. Needless to say that my first Christmas without her didn't seem Christmas despite the bright lights and the sound of merry carols outside.
Yet, I will celebrate Christmas once again.
They won't be fussy or noisy. I won't make a tree, because, anyway, this isn't tradition here despite it's been a trend for quite a while. It's been very long since I made a crib, but this year, I'll make one. I'll set a table with earth, grass, bramble, pebbles and, perhaps, something that will ressemble a stream. The holy family will be in their hut at a far end corner of the table of this imagined landscape lit with small bulbs. The Wise Men will ride their camels from distant land to call on the child at the other end. There'll be shepperds with their sheep and perhaps a woman will be washing clothes kneeling by the stream. We'll see how it comes up, but this year, I'm in the mood to build this crib.
My mother isn't here anymore, but I can consider myself lucky to have people to celebrate in harmony.
We'll have a delicious lunch on Christmas Day. We'll have wine and bubbly to toast for the best and we'll probably sing few carols with a ''zambomba'' and a ''pandereta'' because they're the traditional instruments to cheer an evening after the meal on Christmas Day.
''Zambomba'' on left and ''pandereta'' on the right on photograph are the must have instruments on Christmas Day here.
