Happy Early Thanksgiving

My brother, who has been working on his Masters in History at the University of Edinburgh for the past year, has to return to Scotland to accept his degree. Therefore, my mother decided that our immediate family should celebrate Thanksgiving with him early. It was easily the most relaxing afternoon that I've had in a long time. Erik was in such a good mood, and my family passed him around, giving Jerry and I a much-needed break. Plus, my sister made these amazing sweet potato muffins that I think I can modify to be a breakfast muffin. Yummy!

A Little Planning Goes A Long Way

I have been wanting to get back to couponing more months. We built the stockpile up while I was still pregnant so that we would not have to do much shopping while Erik was still "new." We just jumped back on the bandwagon this weekend, but I didn't have the same coupon stockpile that I used to, so we tried a slightly different approach. I looked through the sale flyers for two local stores which tend to have excellent sales, and made a list of items that were Buy-One-Get-One or Buy-Two-Get-Three. I paired these items with a few store coupons that I already had on hand, and we jetted off to Harris Teeter. I ended up spending $51 on a $132 grocery bill. It was so satisfying to see my family's stockpile of food grow again. I hate to coupon, but I love knowing that I have taken care of my family's nutritional needs without breaking our budget.

When Do I Get My Body Back?

I am so blessed to have my son, but not-so-blessed to have this awkward post-pregnancy stomach. Not only that, but my hips just haven't felt comfortable or flexible since Erik was born. Let me point out that it is not a factor of weight gain. Prior to becoming pregnant, I weighed 210 lbs. and only gained 8 lbs. (up to 218 lbs.) throughout the entire pregnancy. In the 3 1/2 months since, I lost those 8 lbs. plus 20 more. Breastfeeding--as far as I know--is responsible to dropping me to 190 lbs. I just really want to keep going, if only I had a bit more energy during the day. Therein lies the exercise paradox: the more exercise you get, the more energy you have, but you have to feel energetic to want to exercise. So, I think I need to work on added some basic strengthening and flexibility exercises to my routine. I know it will help improve my shape.

That's all for now.

Thanks for reading,
The Happy Home Executive
