My Dragon and Me

This is a poem about a dragon that wants to play every minute of the day. He's a feisty little dragon that causes trouble every day.

Homework

I was walking home from school one day.
My arms were full of books.
I knew I had to do my work.
Before I could go out to run and play.
My dragon wouldn't like what I was going to say.

Afternoon fun

My dragon would not be happy
Of that I was very sure.
He loves to run and play.
My dragon is a feisty dragon
that likes to have his way.

Sad and Mad

As soon as I said we couldn't go out to play.
He stomped his foot as hard as could be.
Then I saw a little tear trickle down his cheek.
As he sat down on my bed to wait for me.
I heard a big bang as wood went flying all around.

Trouble for me

The next thing I knew
My bed came crashing down.
We both went flying through the air
As I heard the window shatter
Just before we hit the ground.

No sympathy for me

We landed at mom's feet as she stood in the door.
The look on her face sent shivers down my spine.
There was no smile on her pretty face.
First she pointed her finger at me.
Then she said my dragon had to go.

Trouble, trouble and more trouble

This is what she said to me and my dragon on that fateful day.
No more trouble
No more dirty looks
No more jumping on the bed
No more broken windows, the dragon has to go.

Dad saves the day

Now mom's not talking.
Dad's fixing the window.
I'm grounded for the rest of the day.
Now what am I to do with my dragon
if he wants to go out and play?

Going to school

I have to go to school today.
My dragon wants to carry my books for me along the way.
What am I to say?
Mom says one more incident and she will drive him away.
I won't get to see my dragon forever and a day.

Hi, Nancy,
Since you enjoy drawing and are good at it, you'd probably enjoy Gary McCluskey's darling illustrations for my Christmas Cats books. See them @ www.TheXmasCats.com. Nice work! (I can't draw anything.)
Sincerely,

Connie Wilson
