My Love Is Not A Red, Red Rose

The true meaning of love; does it lie in the bud of a flower, the turn of a phrase inside a card, the soft-centred truffle or the pop of the Champagne cork? A poem on love in anticipation of Valentine's day.

Hearts And Flowers

Valentine's Day, when the chocolate, greeting card and rose industries bombard us with the imagery of love. Let's face it, if we don't participate, we should feel guilty, right?

Yet love is not about gifts; nor is it a one-day-per-year festival of sugary sweet excess, bubbles and heart-bearing cards. A rose, whatever its hue, is not the same as love. Love is not an accumulation of objects but a manifestation of feelings, impossible to package or limit.

My Love

My Love Is Not A Red, Red Rose

Roses, blood red, a seeming eternal symbol,
yet winter-unnatural, forced and perfected,
to satisfy a flitting fancy.

Each has thorns and all pass before the week is out,
leaving behind be-petalled floors and window-sills;
a memory of a passing thought.

Occasional and sentimental dinner dates
and the mock sincerity of the serenade
say nothing, mean nothing, cost nothing!

A gentle caress and soft-spoken words each day
mean more than fripperies that sate only ad-men,
hypocrites, parasites and sad men.

a red rose signifies love affection and joining hands...
for life... ok till divorce ...
mostly exhibited on Valentine days ..as a matter of tradition

Well Red Roses are also symbol of the female birthing canal in the spiritual chakra.
It signifies sex. Well the do it everywhere and anywhere is around, he'll help, he is well known for his charades around and took me to court too because I didn't comply to sleep with him.
