My Moon

''Moon'' in this poem has meaning similar to that in Robert Browning's ''Andrea Del Sarto''. ‘’My face, my moon, my everybody's moon,/Which everybody looks on and calls his''-- ''Moon'' here may be also reminiscent of John Donne’s ‘’And sweare/ No where/Lives a woman true and faire’’. ''Moon'' represents a very pretty but unfaithful woman who will never love, and be satiated with the love of, just one man, for she is ‘’everybody’s moon’’. No single man can win her undivided love.

My Moon

My moon, you love me I know!
But love is like a flower you can’t divide
And give me a part and the rest you bestow
On others, for anyone would then deride,
‘Ah! What great love it is! Slightly mangled though!’

I’d have liked you to glide into my home
You would come I know and merrily live
And transform it to a laden honeycomb.
I know too you’d soon ask me to forgive
As one single home would feel to you like a tomb.

Frantically you’d rush out and shoot to the sky
For a breath of fresh air from the heavens free;
The fluid soothing sapphire sky that you beautify,
Like a solitary lotus growing in an overturned sea,
Bewitching men’s homes that far below lie.

My moon, in skies only you’d better live,
And if your beauty mesmerizes me
My casements I would open in the eve
For my two eyes to feed on like a bee
The magical glamour you always weave.

My small lantern at home is just mine;
With soft downy light it illuminates
The numerous niches of my mind’s shrine
And all its loving warmth deeply pervades
My little world so blessed and fine.

Infidelity, Promiscuity, Unfaithfulness
