After work or family responsibilities, we should have time for ourselves to develop whatever we wish to develop.

My view on managing spare time

How often have we heard this phrase, '' oh, I'll do it when I retired. I've no time for this now''?
I have heard it a lot, particularly when it was regarding book reading.
The habit to read books can't be obtained overnight or in just few weeks or months. It's, in fact, a lifetime one. It starts in childhood or it should start if one's fortunate enough to have parents that read and they encourage their children to read books and to discuss on what they read.
Saying that one has no time to read books is just a mere excuse for not dedicating the time and patience to sit down to read if only for short while.
Once a person has got this habit, they will find the time and place to read few pages of a book. A reader, no matter how much they have to do during the day, will always find some time to read a bit. It'll be in bed, in the sitting room or on the way to work in railway carriages or buses.
The same could be applied to other activities to fill in our spare time.
The trouble is that we aren't taught on how to manage our own spare time when we are active.
The unemployed gets depressed when they find they have a lot of spare time and they don't know what to do and so do the retired folks despite their good intentions.
If one has creative leanings, one should work on them no matter how little spare time is left after work and / or family responsibilities. No matter how busy we are on a daily basis, there should be time for ourselves to develop whatever we wish to develop.

Some people read books while most do not read. Period.
