Nailing down the Elusive Love Everyone is Thirsting For

Loving without borders and waiting for immediate returns or favors is the key to a better world. Why not we take the logical step than waiting endlessly for others to do so? It is time to be less judgmental and do what comes naturally to us to make a better world.

Love is Natural

We cannot have enough of it. From babies to grown-ups to those close to departing are all in the same boat – we thirst for love and affection. Men may not show it explicitly but women even cry out aloud that the world is unfair for lack of love and men are the culprits! Come to think of it, it is absolutely free, okay almost. It is only a question of attitude in the final analysis. So why be stingy about it? But there are complex emotions involved as it is taken as a trade-off – why give generously when we don’t get enough of it in return? Let others earn it, sweat a bit, and then everyone is short of it! And the world around suffers – in a mourning mode. It is a wrong perception that we are short-changed. Nature showers us with enough and more even when we don’t lift a finger to deserve it, ignore its abundance! We take much for granted including the basics of living that is given free. Love has to originate from the innards of our being from being grateful to all the blessings.

Created to Love

The moment we open our eyes to this world we look out for love. In fact, we are products of love, agreed lust too! We are filled with love and care while in our mothers’ wombs. It is the most natural feeling for a mother and I include all animals, birds, plants and trees. The nurturing comes so automatically. That has made us come thus far. Our mother earth has been most loving as we are also her special ones – she has brought us when the time is most sublime. She has taken care to have enough wherewithal not only to sustain us but also to be profligate! However, some take sinister pleasure to sow discord and expect to take without giving anything in return. Pride and ego take over with an entitlement mentality and love takes a back seat for them and forgotten. But comeuppance will happen and ii maybe too late to return to saner path.

Love is basic for Self-renewal

If we pause and ponder we realize how deeply love plays a part in creation and self-renewal. When we take hateful path it hurts even the most ungrateful among us. There is always the prompting to return to the right path of love. However, some choose a path to hurt not only them but others around them too. They may feel that the world has dealt them bad luck and they become incorrigible to make amends. But such an attitude is fraught with going down a slippery path of ruin. One can always return to the path of love and then the returns in turn will more than warm the hearts. We will have the urge to self-renew our goals and make them more meaningful. And we will get back to society where we all belong. A life of isolation is a waste of precious life. Make a trade-off and give more in the process to add to the whole creative process that is based on love.

Love sans Borders

The more we progress the less we are prone to share our life with others. We become more sensitive to others' words and actions and try to give a negative twist to them. Though the world is considered more and more as an oyster our leaders harp on the past to divide us. Country borders are for administrative purposes only and not convenient tools to wage wars. Now we have family members having different nationalities – the world has become one! And internet crosses borders in no time! Love is universal and the feelings are the same – they touch the right chord though some sow discord to suit their selfish purposes.

When love becomes all pervasive our problems get dissipated in no time. We are born to love unconditionally though we curtail this basic instinct due to the acts of few. The air we breathe is free and without borders as also nature we enjoy though we create artificial barriers due to our selfishness. Some have enough and more to waste while others have to do with the very basics. When love takes over selfish attitudes will take a back seat. Why should we hoard more than necessary? What we treasure is trash after we are gone!

Onward, Forward

Our journey when filled with love will be just different. Why not take a simple stand – love others without expecting immediate returns. Start forgiving others for their faults and in no time the favors will be returned with interest! We make a mistake in expecting others to give and then wait to return after much calculation. I have experienced in life my overtures are returned wholeheartedly by everyone and even the tough cookies among us have a soft and caring heart. Our short-coming is we worry we will be taken advantage of but love does not mean giving away our basic possessions – it is only showing empathy, compassion and to hold others hands in times of their need. They feel touched when we overlook their faults and give them a second chance. There is no need to get even and hold our ground and such outstretching of the hand of love will make all the difference to most to embrace us. At the end of the day we too get a satisfaction that we have done our part than holding our high moral ground. Just a smile goes more than a mile and acts of love will be remembered long after we are gone. I do believe every action of ours will be recorded indelibly and becomes part of the creative process.

Thanks Mark for the star merit and for the tips. The challenge before mankind is how to survive when the weapons are getting more destructive. And some get into such a frenzy of hatred to kill without discrimination using the most powerful weapons they can lay their hands on. Love and hate - classic duality of creation. We reap what we sow - fair dinkum! siva

The problem with today's world is that everything belongs to the Round and Long Generation wherein love is more materialistically professed rather than as an emotion that is pure, resilient and strong.

Thanks Lady Aiyanna. Let the material minded people count on till their last breath. What they take as treasure will prove trash when they leave this world! We should prove we are made of different mettle and the reward is bliss. When there is lack of love and we give starting with just a smile it goes a long, long, way. This is a real positive way to stand out. The majority will reciprocate in abundant measure not that we expect anything in return - it amounts to the joy of adding positive vibes and holding hands with creation and the Almighty. And we do what is the most natural thing to do; let the naysayers have their way, none of our concern! siva

We used to learn about calculated risks, and when I began understanding about my friends and my dearest ones- I started learning about calculated-love.. Strange though everything and everywhere scale is there to measure and calculate love and hate- greed and objectivity. Say it bilateral interest between countries and/ or global perspective.

Thanks Karim for your take. We inhibit what comes naturally. Leave alone countries, we are calculative even among close family members. We judge others and come to quick conclusion without understanding how they are placed. We would have acted the same way in similar circumstances. How I wish no one hoards more than necessary; then the world would be a better place for all including those who accumulate! As Gandhi said - we have everything for our needs but not the greed! siva

Dear Siva, your thoughts and words are well expressed. While 'love is a truly splendoured thing', yet I don't understand why people find it so difficult to give and receive love. It's free, has no encumbrances, no borders and brings people closer together all the time. We are all born to love, yet the seeds of hate gradually take over and makes man vulnerable to all the world's problems and difficulties! Why does this have to happen? I'm at a loss to explain or fathom, dear Siva!

Thank you dear Subra. Many try to absolve themselves of their guilt by blaming others including the devil - the classic God vs, Devil ongoing, permanent duel. For people like me it is just taking responsibility for my actions and thought process. Loving one another is bliss while hating is the pits! We remember loving acts by total strangers forever while hateful acts bring revulsion and it is so clear the which is the better option for us.

I believe our leaders have to put in more thoughts to their action and think what motivates them. If it is love, then our world will soon inch towards heaven. Also hoarding beyond needs will become history leading the way to genuine empathy that will prove antidote to discontent - siva

Just to add a rejoinder to your argument that politicians should learn to show more thoughts to their actions, it's a known fact that their thoughts are all about power and money! Very few have the interests of the people at heart dear Siva!

Thanks dear Subra for the revisit and input. The main issue is the politicians have wrong priorities - self, party and then country in that order while the ordinary folks want to be left alone but are manipulated to fight one another!

When one's intentions are noble, why worry about self and party, why even country? We are all one and the same without differences whatsoever. What belongs to us will pass on to another while we leave with nothing like how we came here. Our hard disk will also be swept clean but our actions should decide our further journey. And in our final moments we do not know who will hold our hands but everyone will have some, maybe strangers, to bid us goodbye with love and empathy. And let us not forget the Creator who does the total recall - none will be left behind! siva
