In this article, I review the top NHL sleeper teams for the season.

Top Sleeper Teams for the Season

Fantasy players are aware that finding a good sleeper is an integral part of drafting a fantasy and nothing beats the reward of the player delivering the expected sleeper hype. With the onset of the NHL season, this post should come in handy to the draftees. It is also important to note that sleeper picks also points out that a player can do better than their value and position in drafts.

League size and statistics play a great role in determining sleeper picks. In a league with 8 teams, remote sleepers are hard to pick because so much talent is showcased in such a league with 8 managers. What makes leagues with 10, 12 and 14 teams a favorite is the fact that they integrate a range of statistical categories.

Note that some of the deep sleepers I will discuss have played a maximum of 25% of leagues. A player’s value and performance come into play in such rankings. Although top-tier players are integral to the success of a hockey team playing a championship, sleepers have a great potential of making a difference in a game.

Although these players are added off waivers or even drafted, they usually end up playing so well that they rise up the fantasy list by the time the season finalizes. Despite their team, age or even position, sleepers normally perform beyond the expectations of everyone since they are very unpredictable. However, I will give a list of the top 3 NHL sleeper teams for the season.

Top 3 Hockey Sleeper Teams for the Season

I will discuss NHL sleeper teams, what has changed for them, including a sleeper and a bust within the team.

The Chicago Blackhawks

Nothing much is new with the Chicago Blackheads. However, Brad Richards was added to the team for his scoring lines. Whereas Corey Crawford is still the best fantasy goaltender, Duncan Keith is the best defender.

Although Patrick Kane (C) is the team’s superstar linemate, Brad Richards is its sleeper. He can perform better than his prevailing drafted value.

Brent Seabrook (D) is not just in a good team, but his name has been widely recognized in the hockey scene. As a result, his value in drafts is always on the increasing end. However, his stats and reputation as the team’s back up for scoring do not match. He has the potential to earn his team up to 40 points later this season.

Colorado Avalanche

Having a bottom finish in 2012 to 2013, the Avalanche expects better performance this season. Patrick Roy was behind the team’s excellent performance in the 1st season. Semyon Varlamov benefited from the fact that the team’s coach is also a goaltender.

Jarome Iginla’s offensive veteran punch and some tertiary scores by Daniel Briere will make up for Paul Stastny’s exit. Tyson Barrie might be the team’s best fantasy defender this season while Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog expect to reach the pick of their careers playing hockey.

Alex Tanguay (LW) gained 11 points last season out of the 16 NHL games he played. Having played so well with the team’s former winger Iginla in the Calgary Flames, the two might get to play together again. Alex is the team’s sleeper this season.

The Russian Semyon Varlamov (G) performed so well last season and is expected to rank better than Corey Crawford or Cory Schneider in fantasy drafts, hence making for an early pick.

Dallas Stars

Jason Spezza has been added as the team’s center. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin will have less pressure this season with the addition of scoring options. Kari Lehtonen and Alex Goligoski are still the team’s best defenders.

Having scored 18 points out of the 24 NHL games played, Alex Goligoski (D) is the team’s sleeper for this season. He has the potential of being drafted the best fantasy defender than his present ranks in drafts as position 3.

Kari Lehtonen (G) has the potential of being the team’s best goaltender though he currently ranks 2nd in the fantasy list.
