Obama completely messed up understanding viruses and terrorism. For both, his reaction has been incomplete and late. As a result, no amount of Czars can stop wither of the two afflictions.

Obama underestimated Ebola and other global mess.

Ebola is a deadly virus but it's not something that worried Obama at all. He and his administration have been shelving America's security and safety as something that needs to be buried with good measure. Americans worry unnecessarily! Now the appearance of Ebola through a Liberian, Duncan who flew into America from one of many Ebola ridden countries in Africa, Ebola Virus seems to have made its landing in America. The Texas hospital which missed diagnosing Duncan as well as messed up his treatment, has apologized for Duncan's death. Since Duncan's death, two nurses who cared for him have tested positive for Ebola despite wearing protective gear. More than 70 other healthcare providers who had contact with Duncan while he was in an isolation unit are being monitored for the virus and are unable to work.

Ebola Czar will destroy Ebola Virus!

Obama's response to the Ebola menace was measured first and then after a series of bumbles from Dr. Freiden, Obama quickly appointed a Czar! Common sense banning of travel to and from Ebola infected countries was not even considered! Ebola Czar! will take care of this pesky virus! Ebola Czar is only one of many Czars collected by Obama over the years. Different Czars have been appointed ; some have been forced out quickly while others have continued to prosper and bask in Obama light. Now everything is under control; Obama's Ebola Czar is installed, just in time for November elections! All tricky questions about Ebola and non-Ebola issues will be taken care of; media will tow along as well. This administration has a habit of under-playing problems and practicing deception to mask others. Shockingly, Judicial Watch reports that Obama has plans to admit Ebola infected patients into the country for treatment!

How about an ISIS Czar to destroy terrorism?

Unfortunately, just like Ebola Virus, Obama underestimated ISIS terrorism and called it Junior Varsity a while ago till JVites beheaded two Americans, beheaded thousands of others, kidnapped, tortured, made captives and slaves of girls and women, and declared themselves Islam's head honchos! What happened to Obama's understanding or did he not have any at crucial times? Something strange is going on in the White House which tends to color everything with the hue of 'politics'. Appointing an old political hand as Ebola Czar will not do anything to the virus! Ebola does not care much for dialogues and declarations of annihilation; in fact neither does ISIS, which is relentlessly going about its business of killing all at will. Neither Ebola nor ISIS care about American politics and surprisingly neither does the country's president!

It is important not to panic when a serious problem arises, and there are certainly signs of panic here!

For one thing, it is quite wrong to talk about "many Ebola ridden countries in Africa". There are three countries in which it a major issue. There have been cases elsewhere, but only a handful in any one country (8 in Nigeria, for example) and there is no evidence that the disease is spreading anywhere other than in the three worst-affected countries.

Of course it is important to prevent Ebola from spreading elsewhere, but banning flights from the countries in question is not the answer, for the simple reason that travellers are quite likely to make several flights in their journey fro A to B - you would have to ban all travel from everywhere to be certain of avoiding an infected person arriving from one of the worst-infected countries.

The answer to the problem is to take stringent precautions when an Ebola victim is identified and treated. The current evidence suggests that the few cases that have arisen outside Africa have been the result of mistakes being made - mistakes can be learned from, and, when they are, the disease will not gain ground. Appointing "czars" to ensure that safety precautions are followed to the letter, and that proper training is given to people who treat Ebola victims, strikes me as a very sensible thing to do.

Above all, however, there is a pressing need for the outside world to send aid to the affected countries so that Ebola can be controlled where it is doing most harm. These are countries that are desperately poor anyway, and they need all the help they can get.

It's especially reassuring to read that Ron Klain has already ditched two meetings about the Ebola situation. Gosh darn, our president just knows how to pick 'em.

Good stuff, Joyce.

John's comments above make consummate sense. There is an enormous amount of fearmongering going on in the media, especially from Fox News. Draconian cuts put through by the Republicans in Congress to the CDC and NIH have decimated the medical research that could have produced a vaccine by now.

You are so out of it, Steve, that it worries me. Blaming Republicans is not only passe, but also untrue, if you bothered to discover that the CDC cuts attributed to Republicans is just another media-moderated lie.

If you could for one moment drop the blinders that prevail in the perverse view you hold of a presidency steeped in destruction for America and an administration of incompetence in everything except politics, you would not need to resort to blaming Republicans for the failures of the liberal agenda.

Open your eyes and see that IT'S NOT WORKING.

This administration appoints political hacks to positions requiring expertise in particular areas, training in operations, and experience in running such organizations. Czar appointees have none of this. Czars get appointed after showing allegiance to the Democrat party and Obama. They have zip-point-zero experience in operating anything, only political career histories that produced nothing of value for Americans.

This is exactly the point of the article: zero experience is Czar material!

Perhaps , dear ladies ....may I suggest you both run for Presidency in the next Election ..
You have to take into account that it could turn your hair grey in a matter of weeks , and the opposition comes from every angle , colour and creed , age and leaning . ..
You will always be expected to meet everyone's needs at the same time ..
You will be cross-examined on every word , and deed ....so be careful you don't blow your nose in public ....as this might result in millions believing you are the carrier of every infection known to mankind .
If you are married and have children ...remember , they will come under the same fire as yourself .
I am sure I could think of a million other things , given the time and inclination ...but I am sure I have made my point here .
Anyway ,
God bless you
Stella :-) ><

Thank you Stella.
If one is to run for the president, we should consider all that comes with it, good and bad. BTW my hair is already turning grey at the idea :)

Obama is the only person I have ever known that I disagree with EVERYTHING he has ever said, but I must add John and Steve to that list also. If you pick a person to be in charge of a medical crisis like ebola, common sense says pick someone with medical experience. With Obama everything is political and ignorant. Communicating with medical people is best done by someone with medical experience. What we got was a propaganda czar!

I know nothing at all about the person who has been given this job, but are you not prejudging his ability to get the job done?

I don't know if the answer was expected from Bill but I could say that this administration has a habit of putting politics, loyalty and donors to plump but useless jobs.

Bill has his facts straight. All this Czar has ever done is dabble in politics and that doesn't help in a medical situation. Good article, Joyce and great comments, Bill.

It would have helped enormously if America had a surgeon-general in office who could take on this role - medically qualified and with the authority to get people to do what was necessary.

Unfortunately, the Republicans have refused to allow the
President's appointed man to be ratified - on the grounds that he doesn't like guns and has therefore fallen foul of the NRA.

John, it would help to know how things play out in this country; perhaps a peek into its constitution and people's rights could clear up your confusion as well. The so-called-bust was on the grounds of the man's ultra liberal/ left politics. NRA is only one of organizations holding significant say much like scores of other liberal/left groups.

Joyce, My comment was based on a report in the London Times from a very well-informed Washington correspondent.

I do sometimes wonder if anyone in American politics is "middle ground". It would appear that anyone who does not agree with the Republicans is "ultra left liberal" - although I also wonder if anyone over there knows what a left-winger is! I don't see much sign of true Socialism anywhere in American politics.

You don't see any signs because the whole concept of Liberalism is hidden agendas and euphemisms. Most America IS middle ground. Whether anyone knows left wingers or not, I know them (and see them). BTW most media leans left anyway, in America and elsewhere; what a pity. Thanks John for having such a decent conversation without all the usual name calling.

Joyce, Thanks for that comment. It is sometimes very difficult for people who disagree profoundly with each other to stop themselves from throwing abuse into the argument, but I just don't see how that gets anyone anywhere.

You can always respect the other person whatever you think of their views or their politics, and I certainly appreciate that - so thank you for taking the same line!
