this page gives a summary of all the issues presented in the pages above and it also calls for an inclusive society.

the reality of disability in the society

In any study that has been carried out with an aim of comparing disabled women and the non disabled women has always come out with outcomes showing how disadvantaged the disabled women are. Even though at times we hear about the women’s employment revolution, the disabled women are not seen to be part of this revolution. The evidence available to date leads to the conclusion that the economy in general and the specialized services in particular, restrict the employment opportunities and lives of women with disabilities.

Women with mental disabilities can be productive when they are given an opportunity and an environment to boost their ability to work. The most is when the disabled women with mental health disabilities happen to be mothers, these are women who already have some burdens to carry and when they happen to get jobs in unfriendly environments, then this will add to the stress they are already facing. In real sense, work should be a source of self esteem and satisfaction for any person especially women and more specifically disabled women while narrowing down to women with mental disabilities. This should be seen as a central contributor to adult adjustment, participation in the labor force may be health enhancing for women.
Disabled women have been seen to historically face a lot of neglect even by the feminists as well as the disability rights activists. This kind of discrimination is slowly being eroded away and there is need for more to be done to achieve the goal. There is a lot that needs to be done about the aspect of being a woman and having a disability at the same time. This can be brought to light only if the disabled women themselves are made to be part of the journey to liberation. The personal accounts of the disabled women will help in interpretation their lives and experiences too. This will give the disabled women a social identity as well as a sense of belonging. This will give both a basis as well as future advances. Women with disabilities are one of the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in today's society. We need to develop a better understanding of their lives in order to remove the obstacles that still remain in their way to equality. in general, we find that women living with disabilities are very much marginalized and they are so much left out of so many things that happen in the society, when we talk of disabled people's organization, we find that disabled women are not represented well, they talk of persons living with disabilities where as in real sense they address male issues. when we talk of the feminist's movement, we find that the disabled women are well included, in matters of education, they are even more marginalized as compared to the disabled men or even women without disabilities. and in the area of rehabilitation the disabled women are seen as if they don't matter at all. employment and economic development has for a long time locked out the disabled women thus making them to be more and more poor. the other crucial area is the area of reproductive rights, women with disabilities are looked at as if they are asexual and they don't have any role to play in the area of parenting and nurturing. these are the areas that need to be deeply looked into to ensure that women with disabilities are able to live a full human life and also able to live in the society.

Perhaps it is a matter of location. I worked in this field for 10+ yrs, and I never noticed any type of gender discrimination.
The issue of sexuality was another problem altogether. Many young women with mental disabilities were prone to promiscuity to a very worrisome degree. Staff people were often concerned about unprepared for pregnancies and the transmission of STD's. The men did not worry us as much, because they tended to satisfy their urges on their own.

Very informative post and a great share. I find in my country at least much more is now being done to help the general population understand mental disabilities and consequently more is being done to help both men and women who suffer in this way. Blessings.
