Old Childhood Days

Remembering my old childhood days I spent in the beautiful hills of Ranikhet (India), I have written this poem.

Once upon a time I was a little child

There was a time when I was a sweet little child,
With a mind too eager to know and learn,
With a heart that loved to play with pebbles wild,
And my best jewel was a crown made of fern.

A child's sorrows are so uncomplicated

The pain of injury in the knee, severe or mild,
Or that of missing mum a little late from work,
Was all what I knew was sorrow, as a child,
In my mum’s safest lap I used to always lurk.

A child's mind is so clear

I loved to draw and paint with whites and hues,
And knit with broken peices of yarn my mum left,
Never was it difficult to decide or to choose,
As a child I knew my heart and mind, the best.

A child finds joy in so many simple things.

I never looked for joys as they were lying everywhere,
In eating a pancake or in swimming in a lake in summer,
Or In listening to the bedtime stories in my nightwear,
Or in hoarding the objects for toys, plastic or copper.

Wandering in the woods is such a fun for a child

To pick the wild edible fruits from the thorny bushes,
I would walk miles in the pine jungles with friends,
On return to home, I would eat like starved since ages,
Food or sleep or anything, I used to enjoy to their ends.

Always smile like a child and mean it !

Now years after my childhood days, when I look at the past,
I know I have changed over time but in core of my heart,
There is still a small kid that finds joy in life’s small things,
In the midst of strife, to my lips a smile, it often brings !

Lovely poem. As long as the child remains in you, you'll never get any older!
