A poem based on my Hometown in Brooklyn, New York. Comments are Open.

Older Times

Older Times

Old Streets
That Lined
Childhood.

Trains
In
And
Out.

Home
Was this
Town.

Street Fights
And Gang Fights.

Catcalls
From Across
The Street.

Apartment Houses
Reek
Of Uric Stench.

Bodegas
Make Your Dreams
Come True
For just
Four Dollars.

Not to Mention
The Distant Noise
Of the Spanish Radio
When You’re There.

Like a
Warm Welcome.

With that Beat
That Everyone Knows
Blasting from
Car Stereos.

Home
Was this
Town.

With Banners
Draped in Windows
Fire Escapes
And on the Hoods
Of Cars.

It’s
A Work
Of Art.

Young Couples
Make Love
Under the Shades.

They’ll make
One
Soon.

As the Sun
Sets.

The Trees
Live for a Few
But Sleep
When the Slush
Is Black as Tar.

These Streets
Lined Childhood.

But Like Clothes
That No Longer Fit
This No Longer Fits.

This Used to be
Home.

But This
Is Older Times.
