On The Use Of Foul Language

If you are offended by any form of swearing, even in the artistic context, then go no further. I cannot be held responsible for you being shocked! This post is of a short poem written in relation to the use of a specific, and very anatomical, swear word.

Freud's Slip

So, it was Saturday October 30th, 2010 (if I remember correctly) and I was reading an article posted on RDNet (the site run for the Richard Dawkins Foundation) about Clint McCance, a school board member in a place called Midland in Arkansas, who had posted some really vile rubbish about what had come to be known as “Spirit Day”.

This was a day set aside for wearing purple to express solidarity to LGBT youngsters suffering bullying and recognising the consequences – a number of suicides. The gist of his comments amounted to him saying he’d be happy if all such people gave each other AIDS and died.

One RDNet contributor called him a cunt which got me thinking about the use of that word, hence the following.

Freud's Slip

He called me a cunt.
Which I guess was supposed to be an insult.
I’m more offended,
by being called a Scouser,
or mistaken for a West Ham fan
in my claret and blue.

Most women I know love their cunts,
if not the word.
Those that don’t can usually blame
repressed parents,
or a repressive church.
Or more likely both.

I’m not over the top about it;
It’s not a worship thing or slavish devotion.
But a cunt is amazing, whole.
And I’m envious.
Freud was such a dick!
