Blog styled thoughts on this year end happenings, the tough cold weather that also gave me some bad health days, and coping with multiple stuff...

The Year End- Time for Joy and festivities

I am not sure how Indians used to spend the year end i.e the last few days of December, before the British "Raj". Perhaps, there would have been some special days but from what I know so far, there are very few special days in traditional Hindu calendar for this time of the year unlike summers and the rainy season from July to September.

However, the craze seen in many Indian cities- not only the big one, during the last few days of the year starting from 25th December- X-Mas to the New Year eve on 31st December is electric. People throng the Malls and market places. They buy X-Mas Trees, caps, mufflers, even snowmen, even when they are not Christians, know very little about X-Mas or live in areas that have never had snowfall.
And the least said about the New Year Bonanzas that the Consumer Goods, FMCG etc companies offer to the consumers- some attract consumers with "Upto 60% off", and entice many people, who fail to realize that

1. Its "upto" - meaning the actual discount could be as less as 5% !
2. There is a little *- Terms and Conditions apply meaning one might have to pick that Grey colored coat instead of the Bright red Sweater for higher discount :)

But yes, the festivities are a great time, and this 31st I am also looking to buy one of those fancy plum cakes that they have in stores(how genuine they are? I am not sure).

The Tough cold weather, the bad health days and coping up

Alas, the sudden temperature drops we have had since Mid December took its toll on me one day, and I have had fever, cough and cold. Some of the fever medicines made me feel so bitter literally and figuratively. It dampened my mood. Now someone from United States or UK or may be any part of Europe could say:
"Look, we have -20s and even -30s and you are belittled by just a 1 or 2 degree low temperature, when you also see sunshine for at least 4 hours a day?"

Well to clear things, we do have geysers and Air blowers, but then we also have to step out and in of our homes to face cold winds, and we have to acclimatise our bodies to such low temperatures after 30+ and 40+ C of the summers.
Also, we do not have room heating. Now to be fair to the Western nation people, even they have to step out at times and what if their room heating develops snags, but then, I think bad health makes weather look even worse.

To cope up I have been watching some TV shows with a remarkably higher interest than usual, reading news at a slower rate rather than trying my normal speed reading, and also sharing this and perhaps some more stuff here on Wikinut and elsewhere.

And yes, the season's lowest is not expected today, so I can have some respite. Yet, do you have any respite, or being snowed in?

You are right that illness makes bad weather look (and feel) even worse. You may not believe this but in my 50 plus years of life (in UK and Canada) I have only ever had one white Christmas, and this year was not that one.

This year the precipitation was more than normal in India. This has changed the outlook of Indians and most of them are in a joyous mood.
However, there are exceptions I suppose!
