Online Jobs and Scams

Because of the tough times, people now have opted to work in the comforts of their homes to earn something, hoping that an online job would help them put food on their table.

The Novice

In 2010, I had my very first experience of having an online job. I felt it was the best job for me since I am stay at home mom. Not really knowing what to do, I sought help from a friend who has been working online for more than 3 years that time. She told me where to start applying and after a few months of trying my luck, I did receive several invitations for interview. One employer that gave me an interview made a post on needing a virtual assistant. I thought that it was a job that I could handle—answering emails, calls, appointment setting, etc. I was more than willing to learn a few more just to land me a job. But during our interview via Skype, he suddenly made a slight twist with the kind of job he was offering. He told me that I would be dealing with their “company’s” clients and that there is only one thing that I should do--- “ENTERTAIN”. Apparently, these “clients” of them are really investors which they would like to win their hearts so they could put in more money into their “company”. There was a huge question mark on my mind. What kind of job was it all about? So, he then explained thoroughly that I was to chat with these supposed clients and respond to them just the way they would send their messages to me. It was still kinda vague and so I asked him again to go straight to the point. So he said, that I should chat “dirty” and have my webcam on and go naked in front of these people! I could not believe that it was what he said. He offered me a $10/hr rate and promised additional pay if the clients get “satisfied”. $10/hr is equivalent to half a day’s earnings here in our country. And although I really wanted to work online, it was not something that I would just grab without thinking of the consequences.

On Desperate Measures

I was offered a job which I never thought I would come across with. And probably others have taken the bait due to the urgency to earn for their families. These poor girls may have thought that everything would be kept private, but of course, we know that this is not possible. Everything would be in public which in turn might earn these sick-minded people thousands of dollars. I feel sorry that these women fell trapped in such kind of jobs that they no longer mind what other people might think of them. It may not be a big deal for those who were willing to do that kind of job but how about those who are so naive to think that their faces might be all over the virtual world the next day.

Broken Families, Ruined Relationships, Tainted Lives

Who should we blame after all of that has happened? Is it the employer who provides the job or those job seekers who would just do anything just to get hold of money? Nude pictures of these women all over the internet could attract a lot of male from all over, very much willing to spend their time and money just to have that ‘time” engaging themselves with such acts.....When these photos and news reach the loved ones of these women, I am not sure how many among their families would take the blow. It is absolute shame to the highest level.

Wow! That's an online job I have never been offered! Good for you for sticking to your principles -- he probably wouldn't have paid, anyway.

Him paying me was not the first thing that came to my mind. It was his ability to spread photos all over the internet that popped in my mind instantly.

Imagine being offered the job for the first time. if I wasn't from the city, probably I'd be terrified and not want to lay my hands on any computer again! LOL
