An Age of Enlightenment beckons us. It is up to us to make the change, seize the day, than let it slip between the cup and the lip. We become more aware of the possibilities with the dawn of a new year.

A Time for Reflection

New Year always brings a breath of fresh air, hope and yearning for positive change. We become more aware that we are entitled to a better life; at least those who are in the majority bearing the brunt of a harsh life for no fault of theirs. In fact, they provide the ground work and foundation for a comfortable living for a minority. That attitude should be reciprocated by the privileged for the world to be at peace as injustices make our journey jarring physically and mentally. The world has to change course and for that we individually need to leave behind negative habits so that we can embrace better ideals with gusto. New Year is a time to let go hurts and look ahead with confidence.

Lessons from History

Divisiveness: United we stand, divided we fall is proved time and time again. It is mere common sense. When society is divided the most vulnerable suffer most. Those who fight it out mostly have ulterior motives to earn a living by creating a continuous ruckus in society. It is like communism that thrives in poverty and misery.

Suspicion: We have been suspicious of others’ intent right from time immemorial. With modern technology we can discern almost all yearn for peace. Let us isolate the rumor mongers through united effort by exposing them and not play into their hands.

Hatred: Hatred arises due to many reasons. It is a heavy burden that is best unloaded at the earliest opportunity. We have like-minded everywhere, so easier to ignore those with evil intentions.

Bigotry: It is a negative trait afflicting us from yonder. Live and let live is the best way that the majority practices but few manage to have their way to cast divisiveness and a pall of gloom

Look Ahead

Future of Promise: The future is promising but any misstep can cost us more than ever. The consequences of another war between big powers can ruin our planet and make it inhospitable. Previous wars were precipitated due to lack of understanding that made us suspicious of others intent. That is history now. Information at the touch of a button to reach across the far corners of the globe should remove all doubt about what we all aspire for. Why harm a vulnerable stranger who is equally loved by his own?

Inclusive Growth: Let all share in nature’s bounty but not exploit the resources through overkill. Let us not hoard what is more than needed. Let our lives be need based and greed should not decide our outlook to deprive others and cause disharmony. Many areas are promising especially the energy sector where key breakthroughs are on the anvil in the renewable and clean energy fields. These will lead to most countries becoming energy independent so that they are not beholden to few for their basic energy needs like now.

Age of Enlightenment

We are the masters of our destiny; what an onerous responsibility! We are marching towards make or break point where our goal should be common. Everyone is more aware by the day how others think and act. The world is becoming transparent in the way it works and the justice systems are converging. It is no more like some can walk away with impunity. It will be real injustice to the whole creative process if we fail to enter the Age of Enlightenment to resonate with the proverbial slip between the cup and the lip. It is not like decades ago when powerful countries were at loggerheads and operated behind closed doors. Russia, China and India are willing to play ball with western countries and political ideologies are getting relegated to the background, but they can still be a heady mix as emotions can make anyone go berserk anytime.

2014 should mark the year when majority rose in revolt against a conniving minority to spoil what we can really achieve through cohesiveness and unity. It is no more enemies are unseen, across borders; they are within our own societies and even within each of us in the way we think. Let us step out of not only from a murky past but also trust others thus imploring them to do likewise. No one will willfully harm another unless that person is pushed to the wall. Let us heed the signs that even countries are led by few like us with similar yearnings and failings. Live and let others live, compromise, give and take – they are the stepping stones for an Age of Enlightenment. Our generation has the power to make or break our tryst with destiny: time for a shift in consciousness to get to where we are destined to belong.

Sadly dear Siva , the world is and will be for a time yet uncertain , a veritable minefield of evil intent while man and nations control the oil ,food stocks , nuclear power and wealth that every needs to survive ...but I believe the day is coming when there will be a One World System overseen by a powerful World Ruler who will speak peace , but his intentions will belie his actions ....
On the other hand I wait for the coming of the Saviour to redeem His own and draw us to Himself .
God bless you my friend with Love and peace in 2014.

Thanks Stella for expressing your resolute faith which I appreciate. For me, we should do it ourselves as we are blessed with conscience and insight. Some take a view it is not possible due to past events. But great souls like Mandela proved it is eminently possible as he avoided blood on the streets through compromise, astuteness and unflinching faith in an inclusive society.

Earlier times we were total strangers easily hoodwinked by few for own ends. Now I know many here more than I even know some of my own relatives as we are in daily interaction. The yearning for peace is palpable but it was stymied in the past due to lack of understanding. The Age of Enlightenment is within our cusp - we should seize it - siva

Enlightening read Siva

Suspicion, hatred, bigotry, divisiveness. I feel these are mostly trust issues.

We do not trust others enough because we fear them instead of loving them.

Thanks Spirited for your encouragement. Now we are no more in a dark era as technology has broken down barriers. Chinese and Indians are keener than others to test the latest gadgets. What is there to fight for a piece of land - does it really matter who owns it when we leave this blessed place? Does it make sense to kill others over such issues? Past is past, dues settled, it should be the present and future that we should be more concerned with. Our forefathers had certain reasons for the way they lived and we will never know the realities to pass a judgement.

When we extend our hand of friendship it touches a chord within each of us to refuse to see reason. Let love make the whole world go around and take us to a higher level of consciousness - siva

Siva, Siva, Siva.....Bravo!!!!
I have have a piece I have been wanting to write for 6 or 8 months now. You have inspired me to make and steal the time to complete it. I have very little time to write. I hope for some financial changes to allow me more time.
I have soooo much to say!
However, of all the things I have in my heart and mind...this should be the forefront of my intent!
This is the time of enlightenment!
We are teetering on top of the fence. Disaster/Harmony.Time is incredibly short! We need to spread the love of ONE HUMAN FAMILY!
We are now empowered globally through the internet.
Its time to empower and unite the Meeks of the world!
Great piece my friend!
A great gift to us all!
May it be just a seed to grow, flourish and spread...like a virus!
Thanks again!
Only the best,
Dan

Thanks Dan for such fulsome words of encouragement from the bottom of my heart. I seize every moment to share my thoughts and feel rewarded when they resonate with few across the world. I have spent all my life in Asia but lived within many faiths.Whatever be their beliefs, there are the good and the bad among us in every place and that shows we are from same source. I feel the spark of our Creator is within each of us to prompt us to do what is right. Loving each other should be right at the top. Hatred proves the heaviest burden.

I do hope you can make the time to share your insights as the world is always thirsting for goodness. I recall the words - Blessed are the meek: and they shall inherit the earth.

We can make it happen for the majority. They keep the world going through their patience and understanding. For the rich, every opportunity is a time for wealth creation. I have seen few traits in them - one is to forget the millions they owe but remember the hundreds they are owed! What they have is in effect belong to society in general.

We should spare no effort to spread the word of higher consciousness. We are aware of our past follies. Let us keep smiling till the end like how Mandela showed us. May our efforts to uplift life in general outlive us. Let the future reap what we sow - siva

Thanks Abdo Salem for your uplifting comments. I should be reading more of your in-depth posts. We are aware how negative thoughts and actions rear their heads everywhere all the time even within us. It is a daily fight to keep our heads above water. My days are made by the majority who keep smiling grateful to be just alive. We are given more than our needs but greed makes society suffocate. More is expected of us; when we smile the world smiles with us- siva

2014 should be that year!
I just read another article today suggesting that a free (government-funded) public college in the US would cost the government less money than what is currently being spent by the government on financial aid, not even counting loans for which repayment is expected. I find it fascinating (and not in a good way) the amount of money that can be spent on red tape in the "Land of the Free."
Peace for your new year.

Thanks Phyl for the input. India is the land of red tape and bureaucratic intransigence. I recall a personal experience when the Finance department told me to get approval first from the Industries while the latter told me to get it from Finance before they could consider the case, and both stuck to their guns! India is struggling with too much of democracy and freedom but they are unworkable when there is no rule of law. Few manage to decide the agenda whoever is in power! Now people have arisen to fix the flaws and for the first time many high flying, well educated, people are stepping into what was considered as beyond limits for them - "cesspool" of politics! So there is an awakening for the meek to inherit the earth! May the momentum gather pace and lead to an Age of Enlightenment - siva

Jesus spoke those words ...The meek shall inherit the earth , Siva , in His sermon on the Mount ...but I feel there are many who equate the word meek with the word weak ... This is not so , as meekness means strength under control . Oh that we had more with that trait , what a blessed world it would be dear friend .
Many blessings to you and your family

Thank you Claudia. We are reaching a point where we have to change track in the way we think and behave - make or break point is nigh. In a way it is like "peak oil" where we thought we were past it, but we are breaking new grounds even in clean energy sectors like solar. Likewise, we should hit when the iron is hot meaning, we are aware of the consequences of our lifestyle like never before - live and let live and be aware we are one and the same, though we make look different as variety is the spice of not only life but creation itself - siva

Dear Siva
Much as everyone desires to enter an Age of Enlightenment in these troubled times, a lot more needs to be done to make this even remotely possible. Men should not harbour ill-feelings towards each other for a start, but in the context of what's happening all around us, I think it's too ambitious to expect anything to change so soon. Still, let's hope someday a new World Order will emerge and that people will learn to live with each other happily and harmoniously.

A good article anyway rightly deserving the star, dear Siva.

Thanks dear Subra, your visit and comments are ever welcome. Let us each do our bit, and the best we can - each can do but little, but if each does that little, all will be done!

I have experienced when I spread good deeds and vibes the return is pure bliss. The whole world is thirsting to make the change, even the naysayers sitting on the fence are on shaky ground! We should nudge them to the side of reason. That way we play our role as co-creators and do not let down the one and only Creator. Who knows He has to account to someone else for creating us! siva
