Our Perception of Life Needs Change

It is time for a perceptible change in our perception of life and what it should be for peace and inclusive society; then only the fruits of technological advancement will percolate to all strata of society.

Towards Inclusive Society

From time immemorial we have had certain perceptions about life. That has kept us in a rut, made us repeat our follies. We find ourselves at each other’s throats and even needle others for a fight. Competition should be healthy but it soon becomes devious to bring down others than get ahead on merit. Can we move on to another level of cooperation that serves to lift the vast poor and give them a dignified lifestyle? There is no need to fear as we have enough resources at hand for sustainable living. That will also prove a healthy challenge to reinvent ourselves so that all can benefit. An inclusive society will prove rewarding to all than the one we have now where most are struggling to eke out a living. Why should we settle for a lifestyle that benefits only a few and take it as the norm? Why should few run away with the spoils while the rest have to content with the leftovers? Let us take the next meaningful step that will serve to ease tensions all around.

Limits to Rewards

It is time our perception of life changed so that everyone works for common good. To accumulate wealth by denying others is not the way. There cannot be unlimited rewards. Such an outlook stokes the flames of greed and leads to few hoarding natural resources that should rightfully belong to the people. The mistrust in society should give way to recognition that we are different in ability and attitude yet entitled to basics of living. We have moved away from master/slave mentality and recognize that all are entitled to a decent life. Technology has made the whole world aware that we are same, our basic requirements are same and even our fad with gadgets converge.

Pave Way for Peace

We are now at the crossroads – one way is uncharted but promising and the other, same old beaten path with more severe consequences if we do not mend our ways. Though another World War looks quite unlikely in the horizon political landscapes can change overnight. Powerful countries might not budge an inch and soon it can descend to mayhem. All the progress towards world peace can be frittered away through some thoughtless acts with a tyrant calling the shots and working the people into frenzy. And some have big pride to override reason.

Remove bottlenecks

We should demine the paths carefully – take action out of the ordinary. Weapons of Mass Destruction should be made history. Why should only few have them in abundance while preaching against them from the pulpit? Even a child will point out the hypocrisy. It will never work when possessing them is taken as having arrived – joining an elite club. When we don’t trust others, how can we expect them to trust us?

Political systems matter little

China and Russia will swear by communism but in many ways they are more capitalist than America. They can pull down barriers to suit their needs in a jiffy faster than democratic countries. They know that they have to appease the vast majority to remain in power. No more secret trials but there could be wheels within wheels, but which country does not have them? There is resistance from bottom up whatever the political system that no leader can ignore. They are accountable to people.

Isolate Evil

We allow few to set our agenda and they ride roughshod over the interests of the vast majority. The evil stands exposed but still they are allowed to flourish when the good fight among themselves for no plausible reason. This status quo cannot be allowed to go on. When we know what ails us, why not attack the root of our ills in unison? Isolate the evil and give them no room.

Majority Unite

It is time to treat all as same. We may have different beliefs or nothing at all but everyone wants their families to be safe and have a comfortable life. People are afraid that others are out to harm them and that is the root cause of the arms race across the globe. It is also fueled by greed and avarice of few. When countries recognize that all lives are equally important the change in perception will be a natural process. Can we slowly slide away from an abyss that we are inexorably being drawn into through common sense and fair play? Now even big powers are out to undermine each other and pull each other down. That strategy benefits their common enemy who is led by greed at any cost. Let us root out this cancerous disease from our system before we pay a higher price by the day. Our perception of what life stands for should change – we sink or swim together increasingly – onward, forward!

Dear Siva ...you speak of a Utopia that we would all desire to aspire to ...but reality paints a very different story my friend . The evil of greed and dominance and hatred are still too powerful , and those who wield them are not likely to be toppled just because it is a good idea . However , I do believe the whole world is heading for world dominance by a One World Leader , but I pray I won't be here to see that happen as he will be the AntiChrist ....
God bless you dear friend

Thanks Stella. Reality is when we accept state of affairs. When it is unfair to majority we should change them. We have the wisdom to do it ourselves - you,me and the rest of us. We have dreams and can make them come true. We are getting there. Everyone wants peace and prosperity but our political systems make few corner the riches of the land. And media too highlights billions they hoard as a great achievement. We should start looking how they made them as behind every fortune there is a crime, at least of not giving others their due, who helped them go up the ladder. When we know what ails us we should rise to the occasion than feeling helpless - siva

I do believe there are millions in this world who are doing their best to keep their heads above water and who also reach out with compassion to their fellow man , but there are also millions who are caught in the crossfire my friend who would love to better themselves , but they can't find jobs , or ill health has robbed them of a better life ...then there are those exploited and abused for other's gratification .. We can do our part to alleviate this misery when we see it , but it will take great prayer to change such things .
God bless you always

Thanks again Stella. When we see so much suffering we should unite and rise to the occasion. We should create the ripple effect through positive action. Each can do but little, but if each does that little all will be done. Of course, we we need the prayers and blessings to guide us along - siva

Siva, I wish for a world of peace and love. If we all lived in harmony the world would be a wonderful place. There are kind hearted people but as I've said to many people over the past couple years I believe society is breaking down at a fast rate of speed. I'm not sure how long we will be able to continue with the hatred that seems to be consuming some people.

Thanks Nancy for your comments and support. It takes time to build trust but hatred comes fast and furious; look at the spy issue between America and Germany, France. Why the mistrust and who gains in the end? All are losers except the few who try to fish in troubled waters. I agree things can get topsy-turvy when we allow few to have their way - siva

We should break down mental barriers. We are created equal - any man and woman can produce a child! Modern technology has broken down physical barriers but we carry some negative mental baggage from time immemorial. When we shed ego we go almost the full distance - siva

Rewards sweeten labour. Unfortunately, this is not always adapted in the workforce, and in our own personal lives. Persons who do wrong are usually the ones who labels others as untrustworthy.

If only you all study …the human mind is fully grown...only when one is eighteen …All accidents happen in life …road rage...sexy ones …rapes and …all which young kids challenge other younger ones …from 16 to 18 ..are at worst----- had the challenge been thrown at 19 …the guys would know …blindness to intelligence …is no show ….all accidents could be averted---- if all thoughtful minds had not been so perverted …so as to ignore how much kids know ….this much and no more ----but 16 to 18 take kids as unsure

Yes Loverme, we adults should set an example before we try to preach to them. The teens lose their moral compass when they see so much of hypocrisy around. Children are taught good behavior but they hardly see it practiced in a cynical world. The girls are especially vulnerable in their teens - siva .

Thank you Snerfu. We are easily overcome by negative emotions that divide us and the majority is used as pawns by a greedy minority - democracy or otherwise. Even the mighty America is reeling from one man-made crisis to another. If the leaders are elected based on a clear agenda they should be allowed to function to carry them out. I do not think I am naive or idealistic. The majority should take the initiative and say thus far and no more - siva

Dear Siva
We see through a pair of glasses and that determines our perception or interpretation of reality. This power of belief is so great that if we change our beliefs and perceptions about our life, about others and the world around us, we’ll see that our life, others and the world change right before our eyes….... in seemingly miraculous ways. Changing our perception of others goes hand in hand with changing our perception of ourselves and creates a better life experience for everyone.
Well done Siva, as usual.

Thanks dear Subra for your input as usual. We take things for granted reposing our faith on few but get played out in the end. We are also manipulated and time the majority put their foot own. They express clearly what they want and there should be no slip between the cup and lip after the elections. Yes, we should start creating a ripple effect by speaking out and not used as a tool - siva

Siva, You wrote: "It is time our perception of life changed so that everyone works for common good."

Indeed! One perception that needs adjustment is our belief that capitalism is beyond reproach. I am a capitalist. Capitalism works well at the small and medium business levels, but not so well at top levels - witness Wall Street.

At top levels of business regulations are needed to offset the fact that corporations can become so large that natural forces of competition that keep smaller businesses in line, no longer apply. Also Big Money has the power to lobby Congress to make laws that favor themselves.

Consequently, we now in the US a partial plutocracy, and greater inequality than any other advanced country in the world.

Thanks Fred for your wise words. I have lived in places where communism, socialism and outright capitalism were practiced. I see human selfishness, greed and ego put paid to all systems. All have positive and negative sides but few take advantage to keep the majority disadvantaged.

Communism has a lofty principle - from each according to ability and to each as per needs. But it was not really practiced anywhere. Scientists pursue their passion for common good without looking at monetary rewards, but the greedy exploit the majority. They have better means and ability with their money power attracting all and sundry. They get benefit too at the cost of others. When I transfer funds to other countries, I pay $30 but the rich get it free! And better forex rates too as they can demand them! I read in the papers a rich tycoon was tussling with a top bank for forex losses of $ 1 billion. Finally, it was settled in secrecy after private negotiation. Who footed the bill - you and me!

Time the majority asserted to make it clear the poor are disadvantaged and the rich can take care of themselves! siva

Thought provoking penning.
It happens in international politics as well as domestic politics, we allow few to set our agenda. Less than one percent gather power and wealth and rule other ninety nine percent. Who is responsible for that, answer is available but solution not. Because in democratic political system, we give powers to others with
trust that they will be fair enough but they don't be so.

The powers and economies of the world are in wrong hands. The western world is making capital of the stupidity and greed of African leaders to enrich their economies, the absence of social welfare in the third world has continued to create a widening dangerous gap of inequality. The only force willing to challenge the status quo is a renegade version of Islam. The world is in a catch 22 situation that will not surprise me if the anti Christ is welcomed triumphantly with palm leaves and singing.

Greed and ego are our worst traits and sad that many third world leaders are ready to sell their resources as if they belong to them and not held in trust for their people. Communism had noble principles like - from each according to ability and to each as per needs, but then again human frailties made it unworkable.
