My youngest brother occasionally sends us a box commonly known as a Balikbayan (back to country) box. Here is some of its contents

Balikbayan Box

My three brothers and their families all live in the United States. The eldest and the youngest lives in California in the same city and near to each other. The second brother, after me is in the US Army so he gets transferred to different States, depending on his assignment, as of now he is assigned in Hawaii.
But it is the youngest who occasionally sends us a box filled with some gift items, some used clothes and items. He is the only one who has the time and he got married late so he probably has a little more saving and they do not have any children.
This is how the box looks and usually take 2 months to get here in the Philippines.

Some Food items and Chocolates

He sends us food, snacks and chocolates especially for my mom. We can buy them here too but sometimes it is the joy of receiving. It is the thought that counts. He knows what we like especially in snack foods, he buys the low-fat, less salt and sugar. he also send us these Hall mentholated candy which my mom likes especially when she coughs. We are always happy to receive them. He labels them just to make my mom happy to see her name on them but it is all for us. We share.

Perfumes, Wallets, Personalized coasters and Family Calendars

His wife made the set up for the family calendar. It has the birthdays and special anniversaries of each family member. She also put the pictures but the front cover is one I made a while back she used it which was pretty good. Also I love the personalized coasters, it is too pretty to use, so we each got one but my mom has the one with 3 of us. We just keep it on display. The perfume and the wallets were for us, the big wallet for my mom and the 2 smaller ones for me and my daughter. They bought it when they went to Cabo, San Lucas Mexico for vacation. They always go there. And they also sent the coloring books and hair clips for our helper's daughters.

More items

Inside each wallet were different items. The coasters were in my mom's wallet because it was bigger and had $1.00 inside. My daughter just had $1.00. Mine is what is in the picture. He got me a key chain and a refrigerator magnet because he knows I collect them. It is not the amount but the thought.
He also sends miscellaneous items like these Clorox wipes. They also send an extra smaller box for his wife's family. So I would send it over the next day. His wife's dad died a few years ago so it is just her mom and sister living with her mom.
They would also send some used clothes and most of his wife's clothes fit our helper's daughters. He send some of his old t-shirts and even sneakers. They are almost good as new. Luckily it also fits my helper's husband.

Sometimes my other brothers send when they have the time to collect. Just knowing they think of us makes me feel good and happy.

Good afternoon, Daisy. I like that word "Balikbayan ". I used to send my daughter's care packages when they were in colleges that were similar. Things I knew they liked, odd things I knew they could use but would not buy, or just something personal to let them know I was thinking of them.

One time, I found a great sale on underwear. I folded each in a circle so that they looked like roses and then tied them all with a green ribbon so the pinks, reds and magenta panties looked like a bouquet. I'd forgotten that bit of whimsy until I read your post. Thanks for the reminder. I have a granddaughter going off to college in the fall. I'll ask about her "unmentionables" before she leaves and surprise her in October :) ~Marilyn
