Prisoner of Circumstances – Loosen the Chains

We bind ourselves in chains with our actions working at cross purposes; unable to break free from issues that are sort of old wine in new bottle. Our potential lies hidden like our inner voice. Time to wake up and do what is right than be taken for a ride by wily few. Democracy is listening to and acting on majority voice.

Nature our Provider, Nourisher

Our lifestyle is such we become a prisoner of circumstances. We tend more to act and react than live our lives the way we are destined to. We judge and even deprive others than accept another as a fellow passenger having a right to share nature’s resources. We don’t bring any material resources – okay, we alter them mostly with good intention. Nobody needs be deprived as nature provides the basics for free; Gandhi said ““The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.”

Leave Positive Footprints

What we possess at the moment belonged to another and then passes on even before we leave this blessed place; we hold them in trust for a while. It is better that we live a life with a take we are accountable to our Creator than lead one with reckless abandon only to find that we did have a purpose to enhance creation coming as we do with individual ability to contribute positively to the whole. Let us not be carried away by the din but pause and ponder to lend our shoulders even as we enjoy our moments under the sun. We should leave footprints that benefit those yet to come and also to remember the departed that we did our best to honor them. What we enjoy would not have been possible without their sacrifice and mistakes to guide us along.

Part of a Whole

Yes, we all tend to camouflage who we really are; some have an attitude problem too! It may be due to our insecurity, to defend our turf that we deserve to be where we are and the worry that others would deprive us. We do not want to be an open book that others are able to take advantage of. But, is it not an illusion that we try to hide and defend than share our experiences for others to benefit? Where is the need for secrecy when we are just a passing phase? We are part of a whole and not meant to work at cross purposes. It is better we remove one road block after another for a smoother ride. We have reached a stage where at times we doubt our own shadows and then it becomes self-defeating. Our destined path is one of inclusiveness and we know the ingredients needed but we are afraid to take it.

The Burden we carry

We have traversed our path in history and we cannot alter them. We have left a trail of destruction but we prove none the wiser for it! Other species seem not to repeat the mistakes like we do! They manage to live out their lives and even their bodies nourish nature – of course, ours is not wasted either in the final analysis! However, we carry needless burden due to our lifestyle.

Secrecy and Trust Deficit: Frankly, we should not hide and lock up. Nature rejuvenates every moment 24/7 and its track record is exemplary – over billions of years! We can trust it to meet our basic needs; the rest that we look for is a luxury that we can even do without or share the surplus that we stash away! We need to be less secretive and live more with a take of inclusive ride. Trust deficit is our creation; time to discard excess baggage!

Coveting without working for it: Male lions seem to have it easy making their females do the hard work to bring food to them as they layabout! And then there is no “ladies first’ in their etiquette! But do we share similar genes? Most want it easy – we take different paths and some like to count their money all the time; so be it! They know the path they take and let them enjoy the fruits of their labor if they play fair! Let us not covet what they have as we too make a choice to take our own paths.

Possessiveness: Some possessiveness is necessary but we have to let go when the writing is on the wall! They can be anything, anyone, but we should be prepared to do without; we have to look ahead than be a prisoner of the past. Embrace creation without borders!

Ego and Greed: Our eternal enemies have been our ego and greed. They have been our downfall right from time immemorial. Break free and enjoy the freedom and fresh air!

Stealth, Deception to Deprive: Even countries indulge in them! But that is self-defeating. Let us remind our leaders that they should be aware of the yearnings of the vast majority – it is coexistence that they crave for because they have to foot the bill and pay the price for the deception of few.

Selfless - the unsung heroes: All is not lost, we always know what is right – the inner voice can never be stifled! Some are selfless and that has been a trend right through. They are the unsung heroes in our midst and may their tribe increase! If only they led us, but they are too selfless!

Fulfillment is in Giving & Sharing: Real fulfillment comes through giving and sharing. They touch a chord anywhere, anytime.

Break Free

We need to act as per inner knowing. We have bound ourselves with chains within chains. We have ended up a prisoner of negative attitudes and actions. Why be bound by those that prove our downfall? We are not put away in a mental asylum but are free to chart out our individual destinies; the freedom that we enjoy being placed at the apex pf creation is overlooked. Everything comes with a time frame and we cannot take anything for granted. We need leadership and the wise among us to lead us – not those who fight among themselves for frivolous issues that serve only to divide us. We have created the circumstances we live in on our own accord and when we find we are hitting a roadblock, why not change our approach than go down a path towards all out destruction? We are bound with chains but we have the power to loosen them and set ourselves free. When we listen to our inner voice everything will fall in place and it speaks the same language of love and coexistence; its message is timeless and the very heartbeat of creation itself!

Siva, thank you so much for writing such a wonderful article. I'm trying to leave the world a better place for everyone. I'm not sure as an individual that I can make that much of a difference but I am trying. I really think if we show gratitude that in itself is a gift to the younger generation. We are teaching them to be grateful for the gifts that they receive. Smiles to you today and always.

Thank you Nancy for your ever encouraging comments.

I highlight how a minority is able to set our agenda and the rest are left to react to their machinations. With modern technology and increasing awareness, we should not allow them to lead us towards our destruction.

To play along with the creative process is more than enough, and then add value wherever we can. No need to stockpile weapons of mass destruction and make such efforts an end by itself to show our might.

Coexistence should be the way like nature teaches us - siva

"We have bound ourselves with chains within chains."

Well put together points siva.

The only thing about your style of writing is that you seem to talk about this "we" at times as being the real "we".

To me it never is.

The real "we" is the inner knowing you talk about, and so in the end the innerness will always overcome the outerness. It is its cause in its way.

All will always eventually fall into place then. If there is a God, the way things are must necessarily be a part of his overall plan and learning strategy or set lessons for both this inner and outer us which both learn and are responsible for each other in some way, which continuously brings all parts of us together from the energy of love within us, which can never be ever totally suppressed by any one part of us trying to do so.

God's plan for us cannot fail, in other words.

Thanks Spirited for highlighting the difference.

Yes, I do use "we", maybe, interchangeably. In fact, I always think of the inner voice, yearnings, though we are led, even forcibly, down another path not of our choice.

I hope with increased awareness of the oneness of creation and yearnings of the vast majority, we inch towards the ideal of merging what we do with what we know is the right way to live.

Increasingly we may not be left with a choice as destructive powers not only grow in potency but also spread wider and land up on the lap of those who have no compunction in using them, like terror groups that jump to claim "credit' like they did when Russian plane went down in Sinai.

Yes, Our Creator knows His job and our roles in it and we are as different as the seeds that sprout everywhere but with own jobs to do at the behest of Creator; how we abide by the inner voice is our choice, decides our destiny - siva

Of course though, if we destroy all of these outer bodies of ours in this destructive way, even then God must have something in mind for us, if we go down this path as a collective outer "we".

"how we abide by the inner voice is our choice, decides our destiny"

you put that very well siva, I agree with you totally here.

Yes Spirited, we are given an innings here and should not commit collective harakiri.

Other species are in a way at our mercy but we are the kings of all we survey! So we can decide not only for humanity.

There is an unseen super CEO at the helm but a lot has been delegated to us and we are looking to spread our wings to go "universal" after the "global" reach looks limited; some say riches are immeasurable outside our planet with gold and glitter in abundance!

It is not how long we live that matter but how we live - let us measure up - siva

Very good, Siva.
I have come to believe that fear is what holds us back; it is usually disguised or adorned, but it ultimately comes down to fear.
Compassion (or love) is what can overcome it, but we live in a culture that has come to see expressions of compassion as weakness.
The turn-around has to start with our children; we have to teach them how messed up the culture is.
I am grateful for your perspective.

Thank you r. nuñez, so happy to read your comments again.

While young we are captivated by fairy tales, but soon realize how different reality is. I believe it is up to us to make our lives heaven or hell but few manage to make it the latter even as nature bends backwards to cater to all our needs and even the greed!

We know the path we take but tempt fate again and again. Yes, fear leaves its shadow over our actions and there are many types - we can overcome them only with a take we are on an inclusive ride. And that is what creation is about.

I can feel children becoming more aware that they should not become hostage to past baggage.

The oneness of creation with the uniqueness in each should light our path - siva

Thank you for your timeless words of wisdom! So many of us are like a rat running inside a spinning wheel and never stop running long enough to listen to that inner voice! Some of us have grown up with such rigidness and dictatorship from our Fathers that we did not have enough self confidence to become aware of that inner voice until later on in life. It took me what seems like a life time to realize that I must stop trying to please everyone and listen to my inner voice.

I agree most fall prey to pleasing all and end up pleasing none including themselves!

We know the fault lines in society that are becoming clearer by the day. Our inner voice is our master and they implore us to stay united and find balance through unity in diversity. Time for us to heed this timeless rhythm of creation - siva

Dear Siva, If I am fortunate to have a wiser perception, life can become a great place to learn and grow. Behind seemingly difficult situations are my major lessons. Disguised in routine tasks are the sign-boards that point me back towards truth. Relationships that bring with them repeated scenes of negativity with the same person and for the same reasons show me the weaknesses I have to work on. We are all prisoners of circumstance but can break out of this trap with the right perceptions and attitudes.

Thanks dear Subra for your wise input. Individually we can progress if we want to, but collectively we seem to be locked in.

Major issues are created by our negativity especially those of our leaders who should know better. They are also prisoners of primordial instincts, actors in the world stage, flexing their muscles, painting other countries as friends and enemies. Form my experience these go to perpetuate and stereotype dislikes. I have found there are the good and bad everywhere, and even within those who look for all purposes to be deeply religious!

I recall the axiom - leopards cannot change their spots, but having been endowed with a higher level of conscience we should slowly rise higher as our tails are on fire and saddled as we are with baggage that includes nuclear bombs!

Hopefully, we will stop before we reach the brink of the precipice ; enough of playing brinkmanship! We need not be a Houdini to unshackle ourselves as the chains are not that yet tight beyond redemption - siva

Dear Siva ... I don't wish to sound contradictory to your fine article , but I have to say that , once I was bound in chains , but now I am freed by the death and resurrection of my wonderful Saviour who broke the chains at Calvary for all who would believe and receive His wonderful Saving Grace .
My prayer will always be that you , my friend , would come to know such freedom also , as God , our Heavenly Father , loves you so much .
Many blessings to you always

Thank you dear Stella, you are never contradictory and your comments are the icing on the cake - it gives another needed perspective too.

I heard this saying when I was quite young "God helps those who help themselves". I like to remember it so that I do my best and then accept whatever I am destined for.

It is better we live our lives that we are accountable for our actions than to find out later that it was always meant to be!

I am happy you have found inner peace through your deeply ingrained beliefs and that leads to an exalted life - siva

A small warning voice from within always intervenes when we set out to satisfy our insatiable greed.

The pang of material acquisition is so great that we tend to ignore our voice of true conscience.

We are a victim of the so-called conscience injected into us-- religious beliefs that make no sense-- so much so the we end up being prisoners of conscience in our own tiny, selfish and man-eat-man world.

Excellent work, Siva. Thanks for the share.

I agree with you so much. Religion belief make no sense. But without religion belief, our society will sink into the sand. Religion belief is like a silk thread which links individuals tightly. When you realize that this kind of religion is not suitable for you,you should choose another religion in order to live better and happier.
The most important thing for success is not your effort, but your choose.

Thanks Ginaguo. Let us have beliefs that unite us and not those used or interpreted by few to divide us.

Now you see even within a religion people fight in name of God and kill each other.

Humanity should be our religion, the oneness. to survive, without borders. Has anyone seen God? He is everywhere in His creations. Why wait till we die; feel His presence now and live being grateful to be born here with the planet as our home. We share everything, including the air we breathe, but get divided as if there are many gods! No one has the authority to represent any God - we can reach Him by living selflessly - siva

Thanks Joyesh. The road oft traveled is the path of greed. I have experienced it as a fact - the more one has, the more one wants. I have seen vultures circling even before a wealthy man departs. I have also seen one changing his will like he changes his clothes! He just does not know what to do - wealth has become a burden and the battle lines are formed to get the fingers to the honey pot.

Gandhi said so poignantly ““The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.” We should heed the warning signs as greed is leads to collective harakiri n the end.

Religious beliefs brooking intolerance leads to division within society and even close-knit families. God might have created us, but we have created many Gods!

Do what is right and by listening to our inner voice with compassion we cannot go wrong - siva

Sadly, even international dealings between supposed friends are not above board as one tries to undercut another with intelligence agencies chipping in to spy on others.
