Progress- from beginning to end

Just want to share how I started writing songs to actually getting one published at the end of 2013.

Ring a ding ding- The beginning

If you look at one of my other pages, Songwriting, I believe I shared that this particular song, Ring a ding ding, was composed in December 2012. It was too late to do anything with then, but the following year I had plans.

Next step

At the choir I belong to, (Stokes Singers) and have been a member of since 1997, I am on the committee as Music Librarian. One of my jobs is to keep a list of the choirs library of music, and take suggestions from our members and confer with the committee and Musical Director, as to what possible music we could sing at our following concert.
So in May 2013, before we'd even done our Summer concert, ideas were already being prepared for our Christmas Concert on December 10th.
Also at this time I was doing a course called Landmark Forum, which is a great course for making you achieve goals, or what they refer to as 'At Stakes'. One of mine was to get our Musical Director to agree to perform Ring a ding ding at our christmas concert. So when deciding the music, I brought this conversation up, posted him the score and the link to the song- (which I had professionally recorded). He agreed we would start rehearsing it when we returned after our break in September.

All systems go!

During the summer holidays, I was busy turning the song instead of being around one person with additional harmonies, into a three part choir piece.
I printed off the scores and issued them to our members in September. When the MD asked everyone to get their copies out, my stomach turned a somersault. It was my song they were about to rehearse. Thoughts of, what if they didn't like it, what if it was too difficult, what if it gets rejected- how would this make me feel?
Over several weeks and a lot of hard work, it finally came together. I could have cried with joy as i heard my song being performed by 35 members in three parts- sometimes split into 6.

The day of the concert arrived. As well as being nervous because I was singing 2 duets and a solo in one of the christmas songs, I was also nervous about us performing Ring a ding ding. It showed over the weeks how challenging it was and I didn't want it to fall apart. I needn't have worried as everything went to plan. The MD announced to the audience that the composer of the next song was here in the choir and I took a bow. Aghhh, amazingly excited and delighted.
The choir did my song proud.

The End

Whilst we were rehearsing and putting minor adjustments to the song, I was in contact with publishers as I really wanted other choirs to be able to sing and share my song.
I found one called Sheet Music plus which after moderating it, confirmed that now anyone can buy this music and sing it.
This has been quite a challenge for me and something I never ever thought would happen.
Since last September, I decided to take lessons in playing the guitar ( I usually play keyboard). I thought this would help with my song writing, as usually when I go to my producer, he has to put the chords to it- I provide the lyrics, melody and some harmonies. So recently, with guitar and more chord knowledge, I have composed another Christmas song called Joy, Joy, Joy- which will hopefully be available to all for Christmas 2014. Watch this space!!!

The original song can be heard on Soundclick or reverbnation. I had someone take a video at our rehearsal but cannot get it to play the right way up unfortunately. Eventually i will put this on You tube, as witha couple of my other songs.
