Promise

I felt the poem tells a story. I feel the poem is able to touch individuals triggering them to recant a story all of their own.

Promise

I was afraid you'd go, yet you stayed.
Who could ask for more...? Yet, I prayed...,
For the good times we shared, of which I craved.
Remembering the promise you made.

You struck me hard, it hurt. I cried out,
Screaming aloud yet standing proud, I came about.
Lunging at you following through, leaving no doubt,
To you, the promise I made.

Locked away cold and alone, feel like crying.
Punched kicked, these inmates never quit, feel like dying.
I call to you in my hour of need, I take up praying.
Remembering the promise He made.

Like a child humbled before thee, divination has stayed,
In my new life I stand up and praise thee, others I've swayed,
Into believing your word the power of prayer, souls you've saved.
Testament to the promise God made.
