We all need to be careful of the medicare supplemental insurance ads on television, newspapers and radio. It is best to read your medicare booklet or talk with a medicare agent.

Read Your Medicare

I was eligible for medicare last year due to my disability. I knew very little about medicare and thought I would have a few more years before having to take medicare. After signing up for medicare I had to look for supplemental insurance. I just wish that I had done more research on the supplemental insurance before signing up for it.
It will soon be time for all medicare people to either change their medicare or keep it the same. I decided to do some checking on my medicare so I called up the medicare office and talked with a very nice lady. She told me that I had advantage medicare with prescription drug program. As I continued to talk with the medicare lady, she told me with having advantage medicare plan with the prescription plan with it, I was not eligible
for supplemental insurance. The only way that I was to have supplemental insurance was to change my medicare plan to the original medicare plan. From the notice that I read in my official medicare book from medicare it states clearly in black and white that any medicare person who has the advantage medicare plan is not to be offered supplemental insurance from any insurance company selling supplemental insurance. Any insurance company should ask first which medicare you have. If you tell them that you have advantage medicare they should not be selling it to you. If you have the original medicare you can buy the supplemental insurance.
I did not know all of this and was tricked into buying supplemental insurance when I already had a prescription plan on my advantage medicare program. I was paying a large amount of extra money each month for only one prescription pill that cost very little.
Watch out for those supplemental plans, if you are not sure about the plan and the insurance agent is not answering your questions to your satisfaction, then look some where else to get your supplemental insurance. Do not be pressured into taking something just to line another person's pockets. You worked hard for that money, so keep as much of that money for yourself to enjoy.
